Have an interview! Need help figuring out what docs to bring
« on: November 01, 2013, 05:53:35 PM »
Hi

I just got a call for an interview next week. With the interview schedule, I was given a list of documents I need to bring in order to verify I have permission to work in the UK. I'm having a little trouble interpreting this list and am hoping someone can help! I am on a Tier 2 ICT dependent visa. I was assuming I could simply bring my passport with visa but it's a little unclear. I also have a letter with my NI#, if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Here's the list they sent:

Original Documentation

In order to comply with the Asylum and Immigration Act (1996) we need to ask you to provide certain documentation at your interview to prove that you can legally work in the United Kingdom. Your recruiter will ask you to produce this documentation during the interview, take a photocopy and return the original documents to you.

Failure to produce this documentation will result in delays in any offer of employment.

List One

1. One of the original documents from the list below:

• A passport showing that the holder is a British Citizen or has the right of abode in the UK

• Document showing that the holder is a national of a European Economic area country or Switzerland. This may be a national passport or national identity card

• A residence permit issued by the UK to a national from a European Economic Area country or Switzerland

• A passport or other document issued by the Home Office which has an endorsement stating that the holder has a current right of residence in the United Kingdom as the family member of a national

• A passport or other travel document endorsed to show that the holder can stay indefinitely in the United Kingdom or has no time limit on their stay

• A passport or other travel document endorsed to show that the holder can stay indefinitely in the United Kingdom; and that this endorsement allows the holder to do the type of work you are offering if they do not have a work permit

• An Application Registration card issued by the Home Office to an Asylum Seeker stating that the holder is permitted to take employment

Once you have checked one of these documents there is no need to ask for anything from List 2

List 2 covers the combination of documents which the candidate will need to provide if they cannot provide a document from List 1.   You cannot have 1 document from the first combination and one from the second combination.

List 2

FIRST COMBINATION

) A document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number & name. This could be a P45, P60, NI card, or a letter from a government agency

PLUS one of the documents listed under B) – H)

) a full birth certificate issued in the UK which includes the name of the holder’s parents OR
) a birth certificate issued in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Ireland, OR
) a certificate of registration or naturalization stating that the holder is a British Citizen OR
) a letter issued by the Home Office which indicates that the person named in it can stay indefinitely in the United Kingdome, or has no time limit on their stay OR
) an Immigration Status Document issued by the Home Office with an endorsement indicating that the person named in it can stay indefinitely in the United Kingdom, or has no time limit on their stay, OR
) a letter issued by the Home Office which indicates that the person named in it can stay in the United Kingdom; and this allows them to do the type of work you are offering OR
H)  a Immigration Status Document issued by the Home Office with an  endorsement indicating that the person named in it can stay in the United Kingdom; and this allows them to do the type of work you are offering.

SECOND COMBINATION
A) A work permit or other approval to take employment that has been issued by Work Permits UK.
Along with a document issued by Work Permits UK, you should also see, check and copy one of the following documents listed at B–C:
B) a passport or other travel document endorsed to show that the holder is able to stay in the United Kingdom and can take the work permit employment in question; OR
C) a letter issued by the Home Office confirming that the person named in it is able to stay in the United Kingdom and can take the work permit employment in question.

I believe you are combination 2, section B.

I would bring your passport, point out the visa, and your NI number.

Does your passport say "work permitted" on it?  Don't worry if it doesn't as you ARE allowed to work, it will just be easier if it says it in it.

If it doesn't I would also bring a printout from the UKBA website showing that you can take work on a dependant visa.

Thanks for the quick reply KF - it doesn't say work permitted (at least I'm pretty sure it doesn't) but I'll take a print out from UKBA site, as you suggest. I was getting a little lost with the mentions of letters from Work Permits UK. I don't even know how I would go about getting that.  ???

Thanks!
