Canned Cranberry Sauce
« on: November 12, 2013, 05:33:05 PM »
You know, the kind that slips out of the can with that satisfying thwuck sound and has decorative ribbing from the can. Two years ago, they had it at Wholefoods, but I don't think I saw it there last year. Haven't seen it on Ocado yet and a quick check at Tesco and Asda online came up empty. Has anyone found it around London?
Sometimes I amaze even myself.

Haven't looked but one nice thing about Whole Foods is that you can call them and they will stock check an item before you make the trip. :)

you can get ocean Spray cranberry in a jar at Tesco, it comes with whole cranberries and there is a smooth version.  Although it doesn't have the same decorative rings and special "sound" of thanksgiving that we all miss it does taste the same  :)

I feel like the only person who grew up with homemade cranberry sauce. My mother has a special family recipe and although I have seen the canned stuff, I can't ever remember tasting it.  [smiley=blush.gif]

I make two types.  A baked sauce and a unbaked relish.  I think I prefer the sauce with hot turkey and the relish with cold sandwiches.

You're definitely not the only one, Courtney. I only ever tried the tinned stuff at a friend's house once and it was ... interesting.  ;)

Yay for homemade!!!

For people who like the canned texture (smooth and no chunks) but still like homemade, try this recipe on for size

Cranberry is one of my favourite flavours. Whether it's cranberry sauce, chutney, tinned stuff, jarred stuff, cranberry muffins, white chocolate cranberry cookies, cranberry orange cake, cranberry juice........ I am a huge fan.

I also love me a turkey dinner- so between Thanksgiving and UK Christmas, I am in heaven!!    And I've been making turkey-cranberry-stuffing sandwiches right now too, yum!!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Life just doesn't get any better than that! Those sandwiches are my fave Thanksgiving night and day after Thanksgiving snacks.

Yum to all of those -- plus cranberry bread.

DS insists on having the canned kind but we always make a cranberry/orange relish as well.

I am surprised I left off my list Wensleydale with Cranberreis!

Sigh... I love and dearly miss Wensleydale with Cranberries! There are a lot of cheeses I miss from the UK that I can't seem to find here.

Gee, it was quite common in the Boston area -- so much so that I got annoyed you couldn't find plain ordinary Wensleydale.

Yes, same in Providence! Wensleydale with cranberries, Wensleydale with apricots, etc.
