Best Rain Gear/Winter Gear for Nursery School?

My 3 yr old will start nursery this coming Jan term. Since they spend a lot of time outside everyday, I know I need to get her good weather gear. Any advice on one piece or two piece rain suits/pants? Same for winter weather? I know they really focus on independence (kids dressing themselves) so I'm not sure if a one piece or two piece is better- and then the best place to purchase. thanks!

I would think that maybe John Lewis would be a good port of call, given their generous returns policies. Maybe you could buy the two types and get the little one to try to put them on them indoors only a few times and return the more challenging type?

I'm on my second at nursery and just sent them in a coat and either shoes or wellies depending on the day.  Normal uniform type clothes under.  They seemed fine.  Most of the time when I walk past their coats aren't done up but they are happily playing so must be fine.  At their school they are allowed to go in and out freely during certain times so having something too hard might be a pain, also getting to the toilet on time might be a struggle.  They really don't have any mud to get into so the wellies weren't really needed to play outside but we walk everyday no matter what the weather. Their toes on the shoes wear out first cause they drag their feet on the bikes and scooters.

Their coats and jumpers etc did get dirty so get something that's easy to wash or that you don't care about.  I do attach their gloves and mittens on a string. 

How old's your little one?

Mine is 21 months, and I love the all in one fleecy suits.  Think I got them used from ebay - makes are Columbia & Jojo mama babe (sp?). 

My DD is 3 so she's pretty good about being able to put on the gear herself. As most UK nurseries are, there is a lot of open free play where the kids can choose if they want to be indoors or out, so she will be out in all sorts of weather. Maybe get both is good and let her practice at home, like PP said. Then see which is better for her. I didn't think of the potty issue, but that's a good point. She is totally capable of handling that herself, but a one piece may be harder. Her nursery has a full garden  with actual vegetable garden, hill, path for cars/bikes, playground, etc. and the teachers said kids dig in the dirt, etc all the time (they even just did a "lesson" on worms) so I am sure she'll be out there a lot and in mud and all. I have a meeting with them in Dec to go over everything starting in January term, so they probably  have the best advice, experience.
