retirement benefits
« on: December 28, 2013, 11:57:08 AM »
Happy Christmas and happy new year to everyone .
Regarding retirement benefits from U.S: I am a 62 year old US citizen and I lived in the UK  for 15 years. I have never been employed  and always I have looked after my  very small property investment  as a property maneger , handyman , cleaner which has been supporting me very modesty and I have been filing taxes too with the U.S and U.K.
Do I get any retirement benefits from the U.S. government and if I would get some,  how much is it and what should I do to get it?
Many thanks ,
William

Hello William, and welcome.

Two questions.

1) Have you ever contributed to US Social Security, either through employment in the US or self-employment in either the US or UK? If so, do you have 10 years (40 quarters) of contributions which meet the substantial earnings threshold for those years?

2) Do you have 10 years of contributions to UK NI (National Insurance)? If so, do you additionally have one and one half years (6 quarters) of substantial earnings contributions to US Social Security?
