New, looking into relocation early
« on: January 02, 2014, 08:49:35 PM »
Hi all,

I've been lurking for a wee bit but would love to start getting into some more detailed information on visas and the moving process.

It is still early, but if all things go well eventually either the bf will move over here, or I will move over there.  We met online (playing table top RPGs over google hangouts no less, yep...nerdy!) and I'll be over to visit him again this month.  Graduate studies are an option for me, provided that I am eligible for heavy scholarships, but that may or may not happen until 2015 Michaelmas term.  The easier way to get over is a fiancee visa I believe.  We aren't there yet, but it is on the table for later.

I have my undergrad in choral music education. I taught high school choir for five years, taught private voice and piano, and work in church/community choirs.  I also tune pianos for a side business, but the day job with the health insurance is in a call center.  He's got his degree in theater but is working in restaurant industry at the moment.  (Glad to see we are putting our arts degrees to good use...a job is a job though these days).

Anyhow, trying to find easier means to get over for grad school in choral conducting first.  Applying for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, but that's a 5% chance on that one.  So if anyone has better ideas for programs of study or teaching work let me know!

Cheers!

The American School in London was just interviewing for candidates for choral director...a friend of mine was shortlisted but I have no idea if they've chosen someone yet. Might be worth a look, his skills seem similar to yours.

Welcome, by the way!

Poop!  It isn't on their list of currently open positions.  However, I might go ahead and just do the speculative application for now.

Great Idea!
