Processing time for tier 2 general from within UK
« on: January 13, 2014, 10:30:38 AM »
I submitted my tier 2 general application from within the UK through the standard postal application route. I will need to get my BRP done also. I think it should be a straight forward application. I am currently on a work permit and working for the same employer. so in essence it is just an extension.

Anyone have any idea how long the processing time is? Can we book tickets for a holiday over Easter?

You don't get your BRP 'done' as such, because your BRP is your Tier 2 visa... you will be mailed your BRP when your visa has been issued.

What you will need to get done is your biometrics though - UKBA will sent you a letter in the post within a few weeks of receiving your application, inviting you to make a biometrics appointment at a post office. Once you have done this, they will process your application.

I'm not sure on current processing times as we haven't had many people here on UK-Y applying for Tier 2 from inside the UK recently, but I would estimate 1-2 months for processing AFTER you have given your biometrics.

I would wait until you have received your passport and BRP before you book any holidays though, because there's no guarantee you will get it before Easter (you might, or you might not).

I was just looking through the forums looking for a similar answer, I have just applied today for my Tier 2 from inside the UK, going to post it this afternoon, and of course I want to go home for Easter.  If you could keep us posted Beeper I would appreciate it! I will also do the same incase there is anyone else out there wondering time frames for tier 2 from inside UK.

The gentleman I talked to the other day about the same subject recommended to apply around 4 weeks prior to expiration date.  It is possible to have it returned in time...but I would not chance it and hope for a last minute airfare deal.  We are getting our supporting documents together now...what did you include this time around if you do not mind me asking?  Good luck beeper.  :)

I received our passports and BRPs in the mail today (although they were delivered separately).

Application submitted (postal) 13/1
Application received by UKBA 14/1
Checks cashed 20/1
Biometrics letter received 24/1
Biometrics completed 27/1
Passports received 31/1
BRPs received 31/1

Again mine application was almost as straight forward as can be. Along with the application I sent our passports (current and expired ones with our then current visas), photos, and checks. I also had a certificate of sponsor from my employer although this a purely digital thing that doesn't get physically included. My employer is A rated so I didn't need to worry about maintenance (although as a former work permit holder, I am not sure it matters).

Fantastic news for you beeper!  Thank you for getting back so quick too!  Our app is pretty straight forward too and A rated as well.  We are just waiting for our COS# to come through.  I talked to the folks at UK support and they said to send the supporting documents we did with our first visa app.  That included birth certs, marriage license, bank statements, and yada yada.  I thought that would be excessive again.  HAHA.  Thank you again for your information...it simplifies things quite a bit!

I am not totally sure, but I think the COS# just requires someone from HR to input the information and no "approval" from UKBA. If your application is ready apart from this, you may want to make sure the hold up is not you employer.
