Working status question - spouse visa
« on: January 15, 2014, 10:06:39 PM »
Hi, this seems like it should be basic, but I'd appreciate the advice! I'm a US citizen filling out the application for a UK spousal visa, and I came to the question that asks "What is your current working status?" Technically I'm unemployed since I left my job so that I could (hopefully) join my husband in the UK soon. But I see there's another option, "Supported by spouse." Does it go over better to choose that instead of unemployed?

It makes no difference what you put, because your spouse's income is the only thing they are interested in. They don't care if you earn a million dollars a year or if you don't work at all - only your spouse's income will be considered for the visa, so your income is irrelevant.

Just be honest; if you are unemployed, then put 'unemployed'.

When I made my spouse visa application, I wasn't working either. I put that I was supported by spouse. I had no problems whatsoever. Good luck!
