Is it hard to get time off from work in the UK?

This is definitely employer-specific but my company REQUIRES you to take two consecutive weeks off once a year. I don't know how strict that requirement is but it's in the terms of employment. Hard to imagine that happening in the US (and this is a UK subsidiary of a US company!)

Some companies require workers in positions where embezzlement or other theft of employer resources could be a problem to take time off - that way when someone else has to pick up the work shady behavior becomes easier to find.
