Just sent off my fiancé visa application!!!
« on: February 06, 2014, 04:51:28 AM »
I am completely nervous! My future rests in someone else's hands now... I never found a firm answer to where I should have sent my documents to though, so I sent them to the processing center in New York because it is what was on my application once I printed it out... I hope I did the right thing by sending it there! Anyone else recently sent off their applications? And if so, what is the processing time looking like right now without the priority service?

I just sent my application in and I could throw up I'm so nervous! I'm doing a spousal visa so it's in Sheffield, but I'm glad someone else is in the same boat. My package arrived today at 1 and by 3 I had my first email from them. I also did priority. I hope this means this won't take long. Maybe not many applications are put in so soon after the holidays. Or everyone is waiting until after the court ruling in March.

Anyway, good luck and I hope this goes quickly for both of us!

Actually, all fiance and spousal visa applications must be sent to Sheffield UK now.

This has been the case since March 2013 and is stated on the UKBA website, on the pages for applying in the USA (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/countries/usa/applying/?langname=UK%20English):

Quote
Settlement applications

If you are applying for settlement you must send your application to our visa processing office in Sheffield, United Kingdom. Once we have made a decision on your application, your passport and supporting documents will be sent back to you.

You must send your visa application to:
UK Visas and Immigration,
International Operations and Visa,
6 Millsands,
Sheffield,
S3 8NH,
United Kingdom

Unfortunately, when you apply online, the confirmation email for fiance and spousal visa applications still says NYC, which is what has been confusing people.

Previously, UKBA had been forwarding any applications accidentally mailed to NYC over to Sheffield, but I'm not sure if they are still doing this (it's been a few months since we had someone on the forum in this situation).

If they do forward it for you though, it's likely to add a few weeks onto your processing time, due to the time it takes for them to sift out the application in NYC and mail it to the UK.

Sending it directly to Sheffield without priority processing has been taking only about a week for processing recently, but as your application has gone to NYC instead, I would allow for at least a month.

I'm not sure what will happen if they don't forward the application to Sheffield though. I would guess they may send it back to you?

Oh no!! I'm so worried now! I had read that every where, but it's very unfair that they continue to say "NY" on the application and shouldn't penalize us for that... Ugh!! All this nonsense is just so frustrating and confusing! :( I really hope they just forward it to Sheffield on my behalf as it wasn't absolutely and completely made clear anywhere...

@DrayUK, I hope you get yours approved too! I know the feeling of wanting to be sick from al the nerves! And now mines just amplified with what I was told... Ugh! I didn't do priority though, don't see a big rush on that part, but now if it gets returned to me or sent to Sheffield, it's going to take forever.... And I was hoping to be back in the UK by April 1st! :(

Oh no!! What a bummer.

Just got word back from Sheffield that a decision has been made. Now I get the entire weekend to freak out. I wish they just had an approved/not approved email. So annoying that they keep you in suspense until FedEx shows up. They only had it for 2 days so hopefully it's good news.

I'm so happy for you!(: that was a quick turn around! Here's hoping you get good news too!!

But yes, I'm so stressed... I did do some digging and found that one person got their application forwarded to Sheffield as recently as December/January, but it took A MONTH for them to receive the email telling them it was received in Sheffield, but I'm assuming that it was because of the long holiday break... So hopefully they will forward mine and it won't take as long! Seems like processing times are really fast right now, which is good (: I emailed world bridge about it and they are looking into it. Also, I've been tracking it in the mail and it should be delivered to the NY office today!!! Hopefully it all goes well because I'm a stressed out nervous wreck! Lol

And I completely agree about how lame it is that they make you wait to find out, but at the same time it's like getting a college acceptance letter... Such a great feeling to get something you want more than anything else in the world!(:
