LOL Stephanie303.....that was many MANY moons ago.....now we have a 2008 Nissan Micra - an automatic - the town car of choice for wrinkled OAPs.  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

Haha well I am tooling around in a somewhat past its prime VW Polo, so I hear ya!  ;D  But oh how much fun it must have been for you to fly round the countryside in the Jag or in a Spitfire! sigh.

I just took the theory test a few weeks ago and am getting ready for the practical test next week (scary!).

I downloaded the iPad app for the theory test and hazard perception (I think there is one for the computer too if you don't have an iPad!). The app comes with the Highway Code... But I didn't really read it cover to cover. The app takes you through hundreds of practice questions and explains the answers. It makes you keep answering them until you get them all right twice. I found it really useful (and I got 50/50 on the test), so I highly recommend it! It has practice videos for the hazard perception too!

What's the app called?

Just put in a search for Theory Test or DVLA
I have a Note 3 and I did the same search and I got a couple of different apps for practice questions and the video portion on my phone so if I have some down time I sit and do the questions/video's.  Though I need more work on the video's! They are kinda hard to see on the phone  :( so I will get the DVD's to help with that.
I also have the highway code book and if you go onto https://www.safedrivingforlife.info/ there is practice tests/prep/info on that site.  I will be glad when this is over!  :P

The app is just called "Driving Theory Test" by Deep River Development.

Good luck!

Passed my Theory test today, oh boy, am I happy that part is done with!  ;D

I used  "The Official DSA Complete Theory Test Kit" DVD set to study. Also practiced the Hazard Perception/Theory questions using apps on my phone.... all in all I put in a whole, whole lot more time and effort into passing this test then I ever did to pass my NYS driver permit test oh so many years ago!  :P

If anyone wants to take the DVD's, send me a PM to arrange it, as I have no use for them anymore and hopefully they can help someone else study!

Hi - has anyone found any good resources for getting a UK driver's license? I'm thinking a class/manual? Do you need to live in the UK a minimum amount of time to get one, and is a spousal visa sufficient documentation? Also - how much am I looking at paying?

I have the BEST driving instructor! Stephen is the owner/chief instructor at Auto Scholar and has taught both myself and my dad's American girlfriend how to drive in the UK. I can't recommend him highly enough... definitely apt at educating a seasoned driver, as opposed to teaching a first time learner. And he's crazy pleasant to drive around with :)

He also picks you up at home, which is nice since we [obviously] can't drive to a school!

Well it's now just under 3 months until my US license expires and I've only had 1 lesson - in a rather large Audi manual. The instructor said she could tell I'd been driving a while and the only thing I didn't do was check my mirrors enough, and also was a bit too close to the left side of the road, but I chalk that up to her gigantic car.

I'm fine driving a manual in the US, but I'm not arsed with it here; it's just too much of a faff. My car is automatic anyway (1993 Rover Metro, which is small and better for the narrow British roads), so I'm fine taking it in an automatic and having an automatic driving license.

Anyway, I already messaged Stephanie about her theory materials, but if anyone else has any DVD's, books, etc., that they'd like to offer up to this last-minute Yankee who needs to get cracking I'd appreciate it! I'm in Manchester and can collect locally, or happy to pay postage for materials outside of the local area.

Definitely get your test booked ASAP.  The first available practical test was 4 months after I passed the theory test.  Hope it's faster for you.  Good luck on the tests!
