Hello All...
Congrats on recent visa deliveries, good luck to those still hanging on, and those traveling soon (especially with babies and dogs?!)
I thought I'd post an update: after submitting my application online on the 4th, I had my biometrics appointment this past Friday, the 14th. I went straight to UPS and sent my parcel off, and it was delivered to Sheffield on Monday, the 17th. I received the "acknowledgment" email this morning, the 18th. I hope this time next week I have my passport back and can confidently book the plane ticket I want!
I paid for priority processing and round trip courier service through VFS. Everything is so damn expensive but it's quite worth it, for us, in the long run. My love and I have been on such a long "journey" to FINALLY be together - and the second we said "I do" a few months ago it's been twice as difficult to be apart. I can't wait for this to be over.
That said, we specifically planned and plotted over the last two years so every little thing would be exactly in line and by the book - we've had challenges and knew we wouldn't stand a chance financially until right about now, so everything has been timed and coordinated appropriately. I say this because I've read some posts recently about sending payslips and applying while in the UK etc. and I just want to echo the wise words I've read in response: follow the guidelines and don't bother applying unless you are ready to do so. Make sure you read everything you can about what is required. If you don't meet the financial requirement, and send them ALL the evidence, you won't get the visa. It's a complicated process that will only be made more complicated if you don't follow the procedure correctly. If you're engaged/married and trying to emigrate, your new hobby should be becoming an expert at all this. If you can afford it, maybe consult a UK-based immigration attorney (they aren't perfect but can help), and by all means participate in the FREE resources that are available through this forum and others. Do not cross your fingers and assume it'll be okay unless you've actually dotted the "i"s and crossed the "t"s...I'm still nervous and KNOW I've exhausted all efforts needed to get it right.
Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just helping.
Good luck, everyone!!
