USC's have mentioned that while the bulk of their Social Security is with the US, they've worked in the UK for a few years, and payed into NI. They may not realize that on the basis of that UK work, they may qualify for a small uk pension (mine is #75 a month) - they use US years to count towards the UK entitlement (it's a complicated 'Totalization Agreement'). If you ask your local DWP office to calculate your entitlement (or go online), they won't have a clue and/or it will come out as practically nil. You have to go through the International Pension Centre (part of DWP). I have found the details, which is why i'm posting this. It's in Newcastle - tel 0190 218777.
