Where to apply for new born's US social security card?

Hi there everyone. I'm an American living in the UK. I've just had a new born boy in November. Now that the tax filing time's here, when I contacted the tax lady she said unless I register my son and have a SS# for him, I will not get money back. So I know I can register his birth at the US embassy in London but what I really want to know is where do I apply for SS card? In USA via mail or I can apply here in London and get the card here? Please assist someone. Thanks a lot

I believe it will be mailed to your UK address from the US after it has been processed.
