Introducing Myself- Ohio to Wales
« on: March 15, 2014, 03:22:11 AM »
Hi everyone! My name is Katie. I live in Ohio and my boyfriend Sam lives in North Wales. We met in March 2011 and have been a couple since September of that year (so 2 and a half years). Wet met online, but have had two visits in person so far. Sam came to Ohio to meet me and my family/friends in June 2013 and I traveled to Wales in Feb 2014 for a week to visit him and meet his family. Sam is currently planning another visit here for September 2014.

Now that we both have visited each other's home countries, we have decided that it will be best for us if I make the move to Wales. I am completely thrilled with our decision, I fell head over heels in love with the Wales (and England) on my visit and was much more comfortable there than Sam was here in Ohio.

I'm pretty new to the UK visa process, but I do know that Sam and I would like to get married here in the states.

I'm so excited to have found this website, I can tell already that it will be a lot of help in the coming fight against the distance :)

Since I've been replying to you in another thread...

Welcome! I'm making the move to Wales myself in August to close the distance in my relationship. However I'll be in Cardiff. Good luck with all the visas! I'll be going from a student visa to spouse in a year and a half or so and I'm just like you in trying to read up and understand everything well before actually having to apply.   Like most minus, your biggest obstacle will likely be the financial requirement. Though fingers crossed that someone on government comes to their senses and relaxes that a bit.   Anyhow, happy forum stalking! I know it's been invaluable for me in prepping me for what I'm about to embark on.

Hi Katie!!
I am from Texas and my hubby's family is from Penley Wrexham! We have just applied for a spouse visa but have been married and living in the US since 2010.

I absolutely love Wales and England too!!! When we were first dating and meeting I traveled to meet him in Llangollen Wales and it was the most wonderful time I've ever had!

Once my spouse visa is issued we will find something very close by.

Welcome and good luck :)

Hi Katie!  I am also from Ohio (though a bit further north and east).  Good luck with all of your plans.  Do you guys plan to get married soon?  From my research I have learned that you can get married in the US on a tourist visa but he will have to return to the UK at the end of his 90-day tourist visa.  Once you are married, you'll be able to apply for a spousal visa.  My husband and I are currently in limbo with this process; he is earning enough money to support me but, because he is a recent graduate, hasn't been earning for long enough!  Such a hassle.  Look into all of your options and then figure out what is best for your situation.  I wish you lots of luck and hope that you'll be in Wales very soon!

You aren't talking about that chili over spaghetti concoction are you?

Hello. Another Ohioan in the UK here. Originally from Akron area and now just a bit north of London.

There really are a lot of us Ohioans here. ;D Always makes me think of this:

I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.' Kurt Vonnegut
