Another Yankophile!

Hi guys

I found this website when doing a random google about Americana and love of the US. I'm a self-certified Yankophile from Scotland! I visit the US every year (AZ, NV, CA in particular), I listen to US radio stations and watch US cable at home and I generally spend most of my free time reading US newspapers (online) and learning more about this amazing country.

My hope one day is to do the opposite of you guys and emigrate to the States. I work for a US organisation in Scotland at the moment so fingers crossed that may lead to some opportunities in the future.

If anyone on here is based in Scotland and needs help with anything or has any queries that a native could help with, just send me a private mail.

In the meantime, I have a question for you...

I'd love to start making more US friends online so that I could spend my free evenings chatting with people actually based in the US, either just 'shooting the s**t', or more formally. Does anyone know of any sites online that I could join? I can't seem to find anything from looking myself.

I'm not sure about any general sites, but if you have a particular interest you may find what you're looking for in a site about that.  For example, I love to read and joined a few groups on Goodreads.com a couple of years ago.  There I met an author who happens to live in the UK while I live in California.  We've spent many an email hour and then even more numerous Skype hours just "shooting the s**t" as you say. 

Long story short, I'm now here in the UK on a 6 month visit and we are looking to get married sometime about a year from now.  Life takes some decidedly unexpected turns!

I will give you my vote of confidence for the proper use of "shoot the s**t". But I must say that your use of that phrase leads me to believe that what you are really needing is a trip to the South - God's Country. There you can "shoot the s**t, "talk trash" and "chew the fat" at a leisurely pace.
