Just looking at your posts, you posted on May 1st that you had got your passport/visa back, and then this post about being overwhelmed was on May 4th.
So you've only just got here after what seemed a rush to get things sorted...not surprising that you are overwhelmed, you are probably still jetlagged. I was even amazed that you'd already met your colleagues, so you've already got so many things sorted out.
Good luck with your move, I'm sure you'll settle soon enough and enjoy the experience.

Still a lot to do but my brain has been pretty calm the past few days.  Can't sleep well but during the day I'm fine.  Taking it a bit slow.  Probably annoying my new landlord with how slow I'm doing some of my tasks (still haven't gotten contents insurance which is required like the first day ;p).

Still a long list to go but at least my night-brain has calmed down.  Darned night-brain.

I've been in my current flat since July, and still haven't gotten contents insurance.  Unless it's stipulated in your lease, it's not mandatory or a legal requirement, just for your own piece of mind, really...

However its very easy to get contents insurance, and pretty cheap too. I did mine in 5 minutes on my phone in a bar the day before we moved into our latest house.

The fridge/freezer in our rental home has just failed so I will be making a claim on my contents insurance, well worth the cost of the premium.

How are you getting on Superman?
I too moved to the 'other side of the world' by myself on a work visa and at first it was one big adventure. Frustrations and confusion, but still I was taking it in stride....   I felt pretty adjusted!   But.....  then, about 4 months in, it was depression central.  Not a holiday anymore!  I was pretty overwhelmed and just feeling a bit out of sorts (if I remember too, I had been on a work trip to the US the week before - so was jet lagged, feeling like I was a 'poser' here and missing family). I took solace here on UKY.  But it got better. Then I got seriously ill a few months later -in and out of hospital- and that had a whole set of issues with that too.   I really started to feel in my element about 18 months in and knew at that point, that Scotland was my home.

I suppose the thing is, we expect in our minds, that just because the language is the same, that it's the same. It's a bigger cultural shift than one may expect. Ok, it's a given that there are probably much bigger cultural shifts to other countries of the world, but there are expat groups that exist all over the world in various countries to help folks out.  We're no different either!

You're now only a few weeks in and it was all a whirlwind! - but hopefully it's getting better. Life is full of ups and downs. We're all different in terms of adjustment, yet you never know when something will throw you.  So if it hits you again, no problem, we're still here for you.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I'm good.  After the first couple of days I got normal.  In fact I was asked recently how settled I feel and honestly I feel 100% settled now.  I have zero issues at this point besides a few little things like still not having proper internet, still not knowing the shops, sometimes having a real hard time understanding some of the thicker accents, etc.  But really I don't care.

Right now my biggest issue is I'm going out with my coworkers so often it's getting expensive. Oh noes!  :P
