Hello all!

I'm a newbie here on uk-yankee and recently received my fiance visa to head over to the UK. Now that one of the most stressful parts of this process is over (obtaining the visa), we're onto the next stage which is getting my little Chihuahua, Ramone across the pond safely. It's incredibly nerve-wracking but I know all the stress will be worth it in the end when I can finally be with my guy.

I was born and raised here in Minnesota, met my guy online via a website called LiveJournal back in May 2012 and the rest, as they say, is history. Sort of. It's been a crazy ride but one I wouldn't trade for anything. It's also been stressful as can be and quite honestly at times I thought I would break, that something had to give, but I'm finding more and more that I have some hulk-like strength hidden deep down inside of me. Either that or I'm just crazy in love, crazy enough to move 4,000 miles away from home.

A few random bits about me: I love photography, I'd work for National Geographic one day if they'd have me, I'm fluent in sarcasm, patience is a virtue I've never held in abundance, and spiked punch is always preferred over water.

Once I land in London, we'll be making the drive up to a little village in Derbyshire, where my fiance has a home and employment and where I will soon call home, myself. I'm excited, scared to death, and completely curious about this new life adventure.

I look forward to being a member of this community, getting to know others who have made the leap, and contributing from my little place in the world.

Cheers!
Jeana

Welcome - Welcome ... I think all of us here are the same kind of "crazy" ... It is very nerve racking - but oh so worth the end result ... :)
I have to say ... I heard "good things come to those who wait" SO much during this process I swear I was close to screaming at who ever said it next ...

Welcome to the insanity!  There are a lot of good resources here, but if you managed to navigate the visa waters, then you are doing pretty well!

We moved to London from MSP in January (well, technically we left MN in December) and I won't forget that last morning of waking up at 3 am to finish loading the UHaul, climbing over snow banks in -20F weather, and tossing stuff in every dumpster or donation bin we could find in a 2 mile radius.  We did, however, move two cats with us (not to the UK though), so I have some experience on dealing with the USDA office in St Paul.  PM me if you need some tips.

Derbyshire is lovely and one of my favorite places in the UK.  It ought to be a gorgeous place to be this summer.

my little Chihuahua, Ramone

Well I like the idea of a chihuahua named Ramone.

Welcome!
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the warm welcome and support. :)

I'm in total agreement that if one more person tells me, 'Good things come to those who wait' or 'You're almost there' or 'If things were always easy, they wouldn't always be worth it', I'm going to have myself a good scream.

I know all of it is true, but sheesh, just let me be over there already! And now that the visa is handled and we're all set there, it's a matter of getting my dog over there which is all kinds of stressful.

I'll be so very happy when this massive hurdle is behind us and we're able to start our lives and plan our wedding...

I know what you mean, my Cat (Morrigan) has been living with my best friend for the last 3 years ... Hoping that once  back there and we get a place of our own I can send for him ... He isn't a kitty anymore and I miss him so much when we are apart ...

Hello!

I just signed up for UK Yankee myself and I've been here in Derbyshire for the last almost 4 months. It's definitely taken a little getting used to!  I had to leave my dog back in the states, he's 12 and I just couldn't put him through the 16+ hours of travel time from my small town in Colorado. Your story sounds a lot like mine and my fiance's! If you ever feel like chatting just let me know. *grins*

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I moved to Cornwall from Minneapolis eight years ago and love it. Among other benefits, we don't own a snow shovel and have yet to need one. We think we moved to the tropics. Hope all goes well for you.
