Renters insurance
« on: June 02, 2014, 10:15:16 AM »
Hi,

I have been with endsleigh for the last few years in the uk because I was a student.  They are covering me up until this August.  I went on gocompare.com and one of the first questions was if I was a resident, or the date I became a resident.  I'm not a resident, I'm on a work visa now.  Just wondering what others due for renters insurance? There was another post but it was from 2 years ago, just wanted some updated advice :)

Thank you, Aislinn

I don't now much about work visas, so maybe there's some caveat I'm not aware of, and I could be totally wrong, but my understanding is, if you live here, you're a resident.

You may not be a permanent resident, because you'd need ILR for that, but you're still a resident if your main residence is here.

I agree, I have friends living here on work visas who filled in their arrival date in the UK for work when asked this question on all sorts of forms.
