Western Colorado to Derbyshire - What a change!
« on: June 08, 2014, 05:03:31 PM »
Hello there!

I'm here in Derbyshire with the grand ol' permission to get married and to apply for, as they put it, Further Leave to Remain. It sounds a bit ominous to me, but it'll do the trick.

I've been here in our tiny house in Swadlincote for about 4 months. The Brit and I have been on a few adventures. Some big ones, mostly the little ones. We've been up to Yorkshire, to visit York and Scarborough. Headed into Nottingham, most recently to put in our Notice of Marriage. We've been to assorted car boot sales and on up to Derby for shopping and one disastrous haircut that left me in tears. If anyone knows of a good hairstylist in the Swad area, please let me know! I really need to get my hair fixed for our wedding!

As the Brit is at work for most of the day I've got to come up with things to entertain myself. I've been playing a lot of video games (Skyrim most recently), watching tv and working out. I can finally get a library card, so hopefully I'll be reading more! I'd really like to get back into running, but have been at a loss finding places to run where there isn't a lot of car traffic. I've been wanting to meet new people, I'm having a bit of a tough time since we're in such a suburban area. I'm not allowed to get a job yet and I'm not much of a drinker.

I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow expats!

My adventure is just beginning,

Andria
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Hello and welcome! I found my time here on my fiancée visa the harder time, before I was able to start job hunting and working. I am also not a drinker so it does make the socialising side a bit difficult at times. Is there a local running club, I know a member of one here and they have regular park runs and things- maybe this would be a way to start a social group :)

(Skyrim most recently)

I just became Thane in Solitude. The housing there is expensive.

I'll definitely have to look into that! Thanks for the suggestion. *grins* It is a bit trickier, it doesn't help that my fiance's friends are all really busy people too, so hanging out with them has to be planned quite far in advance.

Oh, that made me laugh so hard! I'm only level 22 and still trying to decide if I want to be a werewolf or not and if I should join the Stormcloaks or the Imperials. It took me 'til level 15 before I was using both sticks on my controller well enough to get around well.

if I should join the Stormcloaks or the Imperials.

You must go Stormcloak! As the bard sings:

We drink to our youth, to the days come and gone.
For the age of oppression is now nearly done.
We'll drive out the Empire from this land that we own.
With our blood and our steel we will take back our home.

Besides, Ulfric Stormcloak is the coolest guy in the game.

Be a werewolf! Never have to worry about diseases or vampirism again!
As for the Imperial vrs. Stormcloak debate; Ulric is hawt, but I tend towards dark elfs, and let's face it, the SCs are racist, LOL ;)

And welcome to the UK :)
2009 met in EQ

You know the moral compass goes all askew in Skyrim. I think I lost all vestiges of humanity when I married Mjoll the Lioness and found that her "friend" kept hanging around the house. Come in from a bit of adventuring and there's this guy lurking about by the hearth. If you attack him, Mjoll turns on you, and she is hell on wheels with a battle axe - especially in close quarters. She damnnear killed me (I had taken my armour off), which is a bit unwifely to say the least.

But I found out you could lure him outside, and I dispatched him with an elvin war hammer out behind The Winking Skeever.

Thanks! It's been a welcome change. Never expected to be in a whole other country.

Im already a wood elf, so I have only had one disease! I kind of need to make a decision though.
