African Violet Pot

Do they have a different name in the UK?

I'm talking about the two-part ceramic plant pots where the bottom of the insert is not glazed so it soaks up water.

All I can find are pots for sale in the US. I find it hard to believe they don't exist over here, so perhaps they are known by another name?

I didn't know ceramic pots had latin names! 

There are African Violet Societies in the US and Canada but I couldn't find a link to similar in UK (?)  Assume you've tried local nurseries.  RHS (Royal Horticultural Society)?

Haven't tried the RHS but looked everywhere else and can't find the pots.

Thanks for looking! In this case etsy is misleading because there is "uk" in the URL and the prices are in pounds but the items are not in the UK. I haven't checked all of them but of the first 12, 11 are in the US and one is in Canada.

It seems these pots are some kind of quirky North American thing.   It's weird because it's easy to get the plants in the UK!

Looks like we will have to pick one up when we go back to the US for a visit next spring.

Thank you for asking this question!  I was going to leave my African Violet pot behind rather than sacrifice the happily growing plant already in it, but I think I may have to change that decision.  These pots do work very well for African Violets and it never occurred to me I wouldn't easily find one in the UK.

As I kill every plant that comes into the house (!), I have no idea if they might be what you are looking for, or if you've already looked at and rejected these.

My grandmother had the most amazing collection of African violets in the US. She could bring them back from the dead, and look at one to make it grow & bloom. Friends even brought their near-death violets to her, and she never lost a plant as I remember. All she ever used was clay pots (unglazed) with saucers.

I've had success with ordinary clay pots as well over the years. I've found the key (as with many houseplants) is not to over water, and to feed according to recommendations. A sunny windowsill helps as well.
