Spoke to my friend briefly today, the memorial service was yesterday. She was saying how while they have guests there and a full house, the house just feels empty...she is dreading in a week when everyone goes. :( She sent me a message at 3 am her time today-- the time difference can have its benefits, I know she wouldn't have wanted to wake me if I was local even though I don't mind being woken!
On another note got an email from my dad today say my mom is in hospital- nothing serious, an infection they just want to get heavier antibiotics in her...was able to speak to her today and had to smile at her talking about her private room and the service, I truly believe the NHS is a good thing, but sometimes you forget what it is like back home.

So sorry to hear of your loss!  Losing someone and being 3,000+ miles away is one of my biggest fears.  Also sending good vibes to your mom for a speedy recovery!

On the subject of grief, remember to also let yourself grieve whilst being there for your friend.  You have lost someone, as well.  Maybe you can talk about your memories of him with a friend in England even if they did not know him.  Just sharing can be so cathartic!

Only just saw this now and wanted to say that I feel for your and your friend's loss. And I really hope your mum gets well soon.

Do what you can, say from the heart what you feel you can and look after you.

Thanks for all the replies-- My mom is out of hospital now and is on the mend. I had a long phone chat with my friend today (it's her birthday)....we laughed and cried together on the phone...it was good to have some time with her.
