Hi, I'm originally from Vermont
« on: August 11, 2014, 02:12:46 PM »
Hello, boy do I wish I'd found this site years ago! I'm originally from VT and now live in Scotland. I married an Englishman and we decided to move to Scotland as his career was more specialised...he's a research scientist, where I was a nanny. Anyway, the Scottish labs were better equipped for his work, so 2 days after the wedding in the US, I moved to Scotland. He'd bought our house prior to the wedding (he moved back to the UK a year prior to the wedding due to his work visa expiring) without me seeing it, just having a list of what is ideally wanted in our home, and he did a brilliant job! That was 19 years ago!
5 yrs into our marriage, I damaged my spine in a fall and am now in a wheelchair, which has given yet another wild experience over here! Lol
Although I've been over here for years now, there are still things I find weird and things I miss drastically besides friends and family lol. I'm fortunate that I'm able to go home at least once a year to visit family, and it try and stock up on non parish able things to being back with me, but others are impossible or impractical.
I found the site while looking for a recipe for proper western egg rolls, not spring rolls lol. And I've been lurking for a few days reading all I can.  If I can be of help to those thinking of coming to Scotland, or you want to chat, please don't hesitate. I look forward to getting to know everyone!  :)

Welcome to the forum Sassy  :)

I am from Massachusetts originally, born/bred and lived all my life until I came here to Scotland in 1999. I originally came over on a work permit and worked my way up the immigration ladder to naturalisation.

What part of Scotland are you in? I'm in Fife in a small village between Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline ..
There are lots of us here in Scotland..

Kay
