***Off topic***apologies.

My comment was purely genuine in case that didn't come across.

I also did not know you were a guy, I assumed (albeit quite incorrectly) that you were a single woman and with no experience of raising kids myself, thought this was typical example of a brilliantly organised female- hence my compliment.

Regards,

Sheril.

If you do your grocery shopping online you might be interested to know the Office of Fair Trading is investigating supermarket online delivery services:

I was reading about this yesterday.  I used to get my groceries delivered -- at the beginning of this year.  Our schedules were horrid and I didn't have my license yet - so it was just easier.  I'm definitely watching this story as it develops! >:(

I have been doing online shopping each week for the past few weeks and am very satisfied. We have only had a few small problems. But never had a scheduled delivery problem.
Yesterday the only problem we had was 4 out of our carton of 10 eggs were broken. I called the store and they refunded me. I would have rather had my eggs.
A few weeks ago I ordered a 12 pack of Diet Pepsi. They sent me regular Pepsi as a sub. I cant see how regular could subsitute diet. Weird. Anyway they refunded me and told me to keep the Pepsi but it didnt really solve my problem. I still need to go out and buy Diet Pepsi.
We only use Tesco online now and I am certain the prices we pay online are the same as in the store. We have used Tesco for years and know their prices pretty well.

I use Tesco as well and some of their substitions are weird.  I always check any substitues while the driver is still there so I can return them if necessary. And it is a major pain in the neck if you end up having to go and buy something at the shop anyway, but I suppose that could happen if you did the shopping in person too - they could be sold out of something and you'd have to go somewhere else for it.  One thing I don't like about Tesco is when they substitue a higher priced item they charge you the higher price, whereas Ocado (waitrose) let you have it for the price of the lower priced item you ordered.

I didnt know that they charged for the higher priced item in the case of a substitution! Im gonna start reviewing my receipt better.
I just remembered once I ordered fresh plum tomatoes and they substituted canned plum tomatoes. Thats very weird! I kept them because I can always use them in my spag. sauce but I never did get my fresh tomatoes.
Sometimes I wonder if Im making mistakes or if they are just trying to pull a fast one. Im sure I ordered the Aunt Bessies frozen Yorkshire Pud. batters...the ones in the little pie tins. Well they sent me the Aunt Bessies heat and serve style ones. I never bought those before. Also I ordered regular Philly cream cheese and they sent me the Light instead. Im wondering if Im just clicking on the wrong thing when ordering or if they are just like I said "Pulling a fast one".

that's happened to me once or twice but if you save your order list you can double check.  I have it when you order fresh something and they send you tinned etc  I ordered some fresh herbs to use in a salad and they send me some mushy stuff in a tube, useless!

I have just begun using Ocado and haven't had a single issue with them...no substitutions, on time, great fresh produce...yup, very happy!

Well after this thread I decided to give Ocado and Sainsbury's another go, partly because Tesco doesn't stock our baby formula and the other two do.  So before Xmas I got a delivery from Ocado. Everything was fine, it was on time and there was only one substitution ... but guess what it was? yes the baby formula, they sent me a different one which is b****y useless so I sent it back and then had to go out and buy the right one.  This week I got a Sainsbury's delivery. They did have the baby forumla yipee but  they were out of the bread I ordered and sent a more expensive one and charged for it. On the other hand,  they sent me more smoked fish than I had ordered but charged me less than the quoted price?! which is good I suppose except it was delivered yesterday and the best before date is today. That'll be fish pie for dinner then.

This just sounds like the coolest service ever!!  I have been picturing myself on the tram, trying to lug groceries across town, cursing the whole time.  Home delivery has me written all over it!!!

Ok - now for the very American question... Do you tip your delivery man?  Or is that just not done.

It is a no, though some people do.  It is the greatest service, it is nice not to have the drag the kids to the grocery store.
