Where is the Whipped Cream Cheese!!!
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:36:04 AM »
Hi Everyone,
I moved here from New York and can't find whipped cream cheese at Tesco or Sainsbury.  While I have given up finding a decent bagel (the brand New York Bagel should be legally forced to change it's name) I would still like whipped cream cheese.  I am in the Chester area.
Thanks in advance.

You know I had a talk with a bakery guy here and told him that you can't just shape bread dough into a ring and call it a bagel - they do something to it first in New York. I don't know what, but there is a process.

Isn't it a slightly different recipe and then they're boiled?
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I've never seen whipped cream cheese here before.  I've also not seen sweet cream cheese.  I miss strawberry!

Me either - I've lived in the UK my whole life and have never seen it here. Same with the flavours - I used to love going to Einstein bagels in the US and trying all the different ones :). Cream cheese and bagels just aren't that big a thing in the UK (which is why they aren't good :p).

I do have a colleague though who brings a whole pack of bagels into work and eats them through the day... Completely dry, no cream cheese on them or anything!

Eww!  Dry cold bagels!

If the flight was free, I would happily sit on a plane for 6 hours just for a NYC bagel.  They just don't taste the same anywhere else!

I would kill for an everything bagel right about now....

I have seen cream cheese in the UK (can't for the life of me remember what it's labeled as) because I used it to make cheesecake but not the spreadable kind that is common in the US.

Whip your own, I guess.
I have never heard of whipped cream cheese, either here or in the USA.

I've made bagels... pretty sure I used the recipe from the big ol' Joy of Cooking book, and they were definitely boiled.  :)

There's Philadelphia Cream Cheese here. All you have to do is type Philadelphia into Sainsbury's or Tesco or Morrison's and they have the brand. I was happy because I'll be able to make my dad's NY Style Cheesecake since it's here!

Yeah, you can buy Philadelphia cream cheese pretty much everywhere in the UK, it's just that you can't get the whipped version.

They did bring out a chocolate Philadelphia last year, but I haven't tried it.

Hey now, what's wrong with Philadelphia cream cheese? ;)   It's the best!!  (says the Philadelphian)

Thank you all for the heads' up... I will now eat a delicious American bagel with cream cheese every day until I leave so I don't miss them too much!!  Toasted blueberry bagel + strawberry cream cheese = heaven!

Cadbury Philadelphia cream cheese is really yummy -especially on toast, with slice bananas or strawberries and some walnuts or peanuts sprinkled on

It also makes a really good frosting, straight from the tub
I've never gotten food on my underpants!
