« on: October 06, 2014, 11:03:40 AM »
Hi all,

We're ready to apply for a settlement visa under category B. Does the checklist below look ok?

Confirmation of employment letter stating gross annual salary, since when, and type of employment

Job contract
P60

    3) Details of house - "3 bedroom house for 5 persons" (There will be 4 of us including my wife)
Tenancy agreement - states number of rooms, type of rooms and current occupants
Council tax bill
Rental letter (showing rental charges for property and stating housing association is the landlord)
Signed 'no objection letter' from my mum

Evidence of ongoing relationship before & after marriage

Marriage certificate (can this be a photocopy?)
A few photos before and after marriage

Looks good.

Marriage certificate MUST be original (certified copy from local county/council).

Include 1 or 2 photos max and 1-2 pages each for Skype logs/phone calls/emails.

Yes, looks pretty good to me :).

As KFDancer said, the marriage certificate must be an official copy.

For your email/Skype logs, don't send any actual email or message content, just print a screenshot of a selection of emails (dates and subject lines only) and calls (dates and times of calls) covering the length of your relationship. You shouldn't send more than a couple of sheets of paper for each (i.e. a list of maybe 1-2 emails per month if you have been together a few years, or 1-2 per week if you haven't been together long).

You also need to send photocopies of everything you are sending, as they may not return your original documents if you don't include copies of them all.

I would also keep a copy of your application (and important documents) for your own reference (a copy of the application can be useful when it comes to applying for future visas as you can refer back to it).

Thanks both.

So should we include both original and photocopies then?

e.g. original (stamped) bank statements and photocopies of them?

Also, I'm struggling to find how to create a pre-paid UPS label on the site. As mentioned in my previous thread my wife will be sending the docs to me before I forward them to sheffield. My thinking was I'll add in my docs with hers into a new envelope/packet with a spare envelope & UPS pre-paid label, before sending it off via royal mail secured to sheffield. Any pointers?  :-\\\\

Quick note about the passport photocopy: I read that if not providing the sponsors actual passport, that you must provide a photocopy of all the pages in the passport

No, that's only for FLR(M) and ILR applications made from inside the UK.

If you are applying outside the UK, you provide either:

- the actual passport

- a certified copy of the passport photo page

- a photocopy of the passport photo page PLUS the original A4 birth certificate.

Some people will say that just a regular photocopy of the photo page is enough, but as this is not explicitly specified on the UKVI site, I would send the birth certificate as well.

Yes - it's a requirement.

- All documents you send as evidence must be either original or certified/notarised copies

- You also have to send photocopies of all your original documents, because otherwise they will keep the originals and not return them to you... and I'm sure you'll want your original copies back.

You can't do a pre-paid label, because you have no idea how much it will cost, how much it will weigh or what date it will be returned to your wife (it must be addressed to her in the US). So your wife needs to sort it out before she mails everything to you, and include the envelope and waybill details in the package.

She should be able to register for a UPS account in the US (it must be a US account because they will not return documents or visas to a UK address), set up an international return waybill, and then her account will be charged for it when UKVI uses the label and returns the documents to her.

Definitely send the originals as well as copies of those documents that you would like returned.  I sent copies of most everything with my application except for items like Appendix 2, the supporting letters, Skype logs, etc. because I did not need those documents back.  I did, however, keep a copy of everything I sent for myself just in case there was any question of what was included.  Good luck!

The birth certificate is unnecessary and axregularcphoto copy of the bio pages of the sponsor's passport is sufficient.

Thanks all. You have been very helpful. I've also booked an appointment for a property inspection report.

I will update you on how it goes for us  :)

A property inspection report is not required - don't bother with it.

@ksand24: I don't know, there's a lot of confusion around it. I've read some posts where people have been refused because of not having it. As mentioned, I live with my mum (and sibling) who is the tenant of a housing association property. So technically I'm living in shared accommodation, no?

No, that's not shared accommodation.  Shared accommodation is when you rent a room in a big property full of other tenants individually renting rooms.

A property inspection will be a waste of money.

Where are there posts of people who have been refused without having an inspection? I don't recall any on here.

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to a different forum but:

The general rule of thumb is if the property is shared with people outside your immediate family (spouse/partner and children), inspection report is highly recommended.
