Where to find amazing SUSHI?
« on: October 10, 2014, 12:28:03 PM »
I am missing sushi and Mexican food more than I miss my teenage crush on Kirk Cameron as Mike Seaver on Growing Pains... something I thought could never happen!

Thing is, I can make Mexican food at home (though it is a mission to get fresh corn tortillas and fresh tomatillos... but still, it is possible!).

But I can not make sushi at home like they do in sushi restaurants in Chicago, NY, LA, etc etc... and I'm starting to think no restaurants in London can do it either.

Any tips?

much love and lots of noise xx

The Japan Centre used to do loads of sushi. I'm not sure if they still do since they moved to Shaftsbury Ave.

I know it's not the best sushi in the world, but DH and I get sushi once in a while from Itsu. Half hour before closing everything is marked down to half off. We can get four portions (two 2-person meals) for £12. Can't complain about a £3 meal!

Besides that, we make our own sushi, but as we're veg, it's easy.

For Mexican food I've been going to Chilangos in Islington - it's pretty yummy! I also like Cafe Pacifico in Covent Garden, they do Tex-Mex! As far as sushi goes try Sushi Waka in Camden, Roka in Canary Wharf, Mayfair or Goodge Street and obviously Nobu on Berkeley Street or Old Park Lane. Nobu just started doing take away :) Do subscribe to Time Out London or The Londonist - they have great lists and articles on all the restaurants in London :)

Japan Centre (either one, but the one in central London usually has more choice) or Wasabi which is all over the place.

The best sushi I've had in London has been just across from Ealing Common station. There's a sufficiently large Japanese population in the area. There are two places I know of-- Kiraku and Atari-ya.  Atari-ya has a few different locations if Ealing isn't convenient to where you are.

Amazing advice - Japan Centre here I come!

And the Atari-Ya on James Street is a stone's throw from work - I hope I love it and it's my new go-to lunch!
