Hello from Dallas (soon to be Northampton)
« on: November 13, 2014, 06:38:26 PM »
I'm currently in Dallas (anxiously) awaiting my visa decision.  I met my wonderful husband, a Kent native who now lives in Northampton, in Dallas just shy of 4 years ago.  We got married in April 2014 but are only just now able to apply for my visa as my husband was made redundant right before our wedding and only recently started a new job.  As it happens, I am being made redundant on 5 December, so the timing of that may work out well if the visa comes back approved.  Hoping to move 8 Jan 2015!

Hi Trifecta32!  I'm also from Dallas (I live in Frisco, actually) and my husband is from Kent...Dover!  I have almost the exact same timeline as you on the spouse visa.  I got the arrival confirmation last Monday and am anxiously waiting for the decision email!  I'm on a big time crunch because I'll be moving over with my dogs, and they shipping agent closes for the last two weeks of December.  We met in Vegas in June 2011 and married in Frisco in January 2012.  My husband moved here (after an 11 month long visa process) and we decided with the housing market to sell our home over to summer and move back to England to be closer to his son.  Good luck to you!  Keep us posted on the visa and I'll do the same.

What a coincidence!  I technically live in Dallas but I am closer to Plano than downtown.  I'm not far from Frisco at all!  I've been keeping an eye on your timeline on the processing times thread - I hope it comes through soon!  You were only a few days behind me and I just received mine in the mail yesterday.

My husband is from Kent also - Sittingbourne!  Though we will be living in Northampton, where his daughter lives.  We do visit Kent often to see his family and friends, so maybe after we all get settled we could meet up.  It would be nice to meet a fellow Texan in the UK :)

I am also moving my dogs, but we are planning my move in January so we're not affected by the holidays.  I'm not sure what company you're using - I'm using PetRelocation (an Austin-based company).  They've been wonderful so far.

Good luck to you and please feel free to keep in touch!  I'll PM you my email.

When I was planning to move after we got married (we changed our minds and stayed in TX for a while), I think I was working with that company and they were very good.  I decided to go directly through the cargo company.  My dogs are small and the cargo company is quoting me $1600 to send both dogs.  My vet handles all of the necessary paperwork, I purchase the proper kennels, and once their flight is booked, the cargo company will send me a packet with all of the necessary rules and information.  The cargo company acts as the receiver in London.  :)  I'll keep you posted...hoping this all works out in the right time!

Oh, and that would be wonderful to meet up at a pub or something sometime in the spring!  I'm sure I'll be homesick by then!

Cool - I just visited Dallas for the first time in September (other than having various layovers at DFW over the years) - I was only there for 3 days though and didn't see much of anything really. Next September, I'll be in Plano for a couple of days too :).

Wow! That's a great price!  Mine are small too but my quote was much higher.  Maybe it's a difference in timing or size - the airline cost alone is just shy of $2,000 for both dogs.  Then fees and paperwork services, etc., etc., we're well north of $3k.

I called IAG Cargo about booking direct and they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about.  PetRelocation, who I am going to use, was a little higher than BA's recommended agent Air Pets/Pets in Transit but I've really liked working with them so far and they help me feel a little less anxious about the whole thing :)

Both dogs will go on a BA commercial airline direct from DFW to Heathrow the same day I leave and we will pick them up from the Animal Reception Centre at Heathrow.

I feel like I've learned more about what to see and do in Dallas since I met my husband and started playing tour guide than I ever knew, despite growing up here!  I'll be back on a regular basis.  Enjoy your next trip :)

Thanks :). I have relatives in Arkansas (and I've lived in New Mexico twice), so I visit the US fairly often :).

I know what you mean about not seeing so much when you live there. Like, I grew up only 60 miles from Stonehenge, but my first visit there was at age 25, when one of my US friends was visiting :P.

Hello you Dallas ladies! I've been living in the UK for 12 years but am here in Carrollton, visiting my son right now. Daughter lives in Flower Mound. You're in for an adventure! If anyone wants to chat, you can private message me and I'll send you my local cell phone number.
