Do you feel the move to the UK 'changed' your kids? For better or for worse?

A weird question -- do you feel that the move to the UK 'changed' your kids, in terms of personality, attitude, etc.? The place we lived in the US was very friendly and neighbourhoody, lots of people smiling and saying 'Hi' etc and being generally midwestern and whatnot. Here in the UK (moved 5 yrs ago) there is a different mood -- more detached, reserved, cynical, moany, etc. I'm wondering if this might have altered my kids (daughter in particular has become quite moody of late, but then again she is nearly 11 and it might just be par for the course.)

Any thoughts on this? Have you ever wondered how your kids might be different if you hadn't made the move? Have you moved back to the US and noticed any difference?

My kids were born in the UK but spent a lot of holidays in US where they were regaled with the friendly attention you speak of.  Don't know if that specifically changed them at all in any way.  I suspect your daughter's attitude has more to do with growing up

As a former young girl, and a current teacher of kids that age, I can assure you that moodiness is definitely par for the course!  Don't worry, she'll only hate you until she's 30. 

Seriously though, puberty is a hell of a time for kids.  They go from being sweet little pumpkins to hormonal, moping, attitude-laden shits.  The attitude is even worse in girls, I find.  Hang in there.  I doubt it has anything to do with being in the UK versus the US.
