Christmas Question
« on: November 28, 2014, 08:28:21 PM »
Hey everyone,

Back in the states when Christmas rolled around I gave my coworkers and boss small gifts for Christmas. Nothing huge, just small things I made myself. Last year I gave the guys cookies and the ladies got homemade bath bombs.

Is this sort of thing done here in the UK, giving small gifts? And if it is, what sort of small gift works for guys over here? I'm new at my job and I don't know everyone very well.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I've never given gifts, unless the office did a Secret Santa. I usually just give out Christmas cards.

If I took in anything, I might bake some cakes or biscuits for the office to share, but I do that at other times of the year as well, so it wouldn't be a specifically Christmas-related thing.

Agreed... Christmas cards are just about the limit, unless your office is doing a Secret Santa.  I've even noticed that most people don't even bother with the cards in recent years, at least where I work.  I'm in a team of 30, and out of 30, I might get 10 cards.

I don't do either gifts or cards.  A treat to share at the office would go down well.

I work in a school..we do secret santa..some do Christmas cards....people who work very directly with one or two people sometimes by a little something for those people (example teaching assistant and teacher or the two secretaries). I will often make a platter of Christmas cookies to share with everyone in the staff room.

I meant to say thank you to everyone for your responses. Life got a little bit carried away from me. I was really missing my family for thanksgiving and then I caught the flu and it's been a really rough few weeks.

Just wanted to update that it turns out my work IS one where everyone gives gifts. And nothing token either. Box of chocolates and a bottle of champagne, and a homemade cherry chocolate bread and a necklace. Yeah, so here I am... getting gifts with nothing to give in return. I'll have to figure something out for when we all go back after the holidays. *wry smile* This was so unexpected!

Wow, very nice! I gave some Christmas cards to people at work - the ones that were there on that day. One other person was giving out cards. I work with mostly males so that is probably some of it. No gifts though.
Keepin' it real. Real annoying.
