Brand defends immigrants - question time

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

I am wondering if this is worth watching. Both annoy me for different reasons, but I think it could be amusing.

You know I felt much the same....

For me I thought, "Finally, someone makes a stand......ohhh, it's Russell...."

But one could say that that says something in itself....in fact it does say something.

If I ever meet Russell Brand I want to ask him why anyone would attempt to remake Arthur. The same with Steve Martin and the Pink Panther....it's a fool's errand.

Haha.

Although I'm not Russell's biggest fan, I do respect him for at least speaking out on stuff like this.

I like how Nigel was calling Russell's supporters "lovely people" all sarcastically as though UKIP members aren't ever hateful.

Russell Brand is from the same area in Essex as my husband.   :-X  So is Helen Mirren, though, so it balances out.  I don't think he's a huge idiot so at least someone is jumping into the debate.

No he's not. I am dubious of his call to not vote. I couldn't care less how much rent he pays.

No one takes Brand seriously..i mean who is he and why should anyone pay him any heed? Its not like he is important or has any influence. He isnt a Government official, leader of a church or anything like that. He is simply a some time stand up comedian of questionable ability and his views are worth no more and no less than any other subject of Her Majesty the Queen.

While I've never really understood the tendency some people have to treat every word that falls from a celebrity's lips as gospel, the part that often gets forgotten in criticisms of people like Brand (or George Clooney, or Emma Watson, or anyone else), is the or less.  The statements that celebrities make on causes that are important to them, should be judged on the merits of content, not on the fame of the speaker.

That said, as long as they're making cogent points, I see no problem with celebrities speaking out.  They may be saying exactly what I've always thought, but the difference is, nobody's going to stick me in front of a camera and let me try to explain it to the rest of the world.
