Party food for a pirate party?
« on: November 06, 2004, 09:32:09 AM »
We're having a pirate party for teenagers.   :)  And we need ideas-we're thinking seafood, and fruit and kebabs(probably chicken and fruit).   And good ideas?  Any other pirate party ideas?

Rum. You need rum. Or maybe rum 'n' raisin ice cream would be safer. Do they still make that?

Pirate music - Adam and the Ants?

Hand out bottles of Captain Pugwash bubble bath when they leave.  ;)

Hmmmm.  Good ideas.  All of them.   ;)

Just not sure how they'd go over with a fourteen year old.   ::)  I got the life size poster of Johny Depp, which was okay but my plan to take photos of eveyone in front of it was dorky.  I like seven year olds.

Can you get those pie tins here like you can in the states? If so, fed them baked chicken legs or some slop stew in the tins with some funky metal or plastic spoons. Fresh fruit piled high onto a table would be good...fruit punch in a bowl with a ladel to serve into a tin cup or jam jar? Peanuts in the shells they can throw everywhere...That's all I can think of right this second but it sounds like a fun party...Oh, don't forget the deviled eggs.

Pirate's Booty....seriously doubt they have that in the UK though. ;)

How about having those gold foil covered chocolate coins spread around?  Looking like treasure you know

If you can find them here - empty out coconuts. Make some punch and buy a cheap sailing boat kit and float in the bowl. Otherwise get the small floating candles and float them in the bowl. Buy a number of cheap eye-patches and a stuffed plush parrot for the photos.

I did a quick search in Google for "pirate party" and found pages and pages of great ideas from food to games and decor.  I liked the "blue jello with gummi fish" to look like an ocean...

Anyhow, check it out, there were some nifty ideas...

Have fun--and don't forget a pack of Nurphen for the adults that have to listen to the loud kiddies all day...

Try putting some of those cold coin candies in a chest or box made to look like a Pirate's chest. I know it sounds a little kiddie, but what teen can turn down chocolate?

I'm thinking of putting gold coins on the cupcakes.  Opinions?  And I'm liking the jello idea.  Do gummy type fish exist over here?  Lot's of fruit-but I don't have a punch bowl.  I'll have a look today, see if there's anything I could substitute.   I didn't think of google-thanks Frances, I'll have a look.
So far I've got decorations.
*a jolly roger
*life size poster of Johnny Depp(for mum really ;))
*shiny fish garland
*black and white streamers
*black and white baloons
*an eyepatch-but I like lightbulb's idea and will buy more
*an inflatable parrot, but thinking about it I think we have a plush one somewhere.
now should I go colorful or black and white for the talbleware?
  :)

Oranges, orange juice. Don't want those kids getting scruvy!  ;)

Thanks for the ideas everybody.  Party was a success.  Lots of teenage drama, loud music, and silliness.  The food went well and the surprize hit of the evening was...........FRUIT!  I made fruit kebabs and stuck them into watermelon bases, and they couldn't get enough of them ::) Just goes to show I guess.
