Queer Eye for Straight Guy book

OK, don't ask, but I got the book from Amazon for 8 pounds. It's actually a pretty decent intro style book for guys. If you like the show and wish your male partner paid more attention, then it's worth getting. What I wouldn't get is _What everyman needs to need about style_ the book that Ted Allen (the food guy) co-authored when he worked for Esquire. It's mainly dedicated to insisting that men wear suits all the time, and it has a number of homophobic cracks (what was Ted thinking?).

Oh, good, i'm looking to buy this for my other half as he loves the show. Thanks for giving it a thumbs up!

Oh definitely. It's easy to read and clear that the five actually wrote parts of it since you can hear their voices (I'm not saying that that they wrote all of it single-handedly). The strongest sections are Kyan's and Thom's since the print form actually lets you follow what they're suggesting, which often goes by too quickly in the show (and for me appears less in season two, which increasingly seems to be about getting great expensive toys). Carson's section is slightly weaker since he falls back on his Ralph Lauren style. For the record, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a polo short-sleeve or having a Blue-striped button down as my first choice shirt. Surprisingly, Jai's section isn't bad, although it's basic common-sense. I think that Tescos also sells it for a reduced price if you don't want to get it from Amazon (this is where I first saw it). Overall, I'd say an excellent gift, not least since you can both read it together and talk (it's laid out in a very group friendly style).

Would this book be any good for a woman?   DW loves the show but I'm not sure if it would be appropriate for her as it's basically a fashion-sense book for guys.

I'd say about 60% of it would be good for a woman. Overall, if they like the show, they'd find it interesting (and it's really not that expensive from Amazon/Texco). Some sections are non-gendered. Ted (food) and Thom (design) are non-gendered. Jai (culture) is also pretty non-gendered, but I'd reckon many women know this stuff anyway. Kyan (grooming) and Carson (clothing) are pretty much about the male body, but then this, too, might be of some interest for a woman as a guide of things that she might get a male for a present. If you're getting your female partner this, though, be sure to intervene lest she take Carson's advice and start buying you clothes as if you're about to pop over to the Hamptons for the weekend.
