Well, I knew there was a guy named John in the Beatles.  My dad was always playing Beatles songs on the guitar and on his record player (he was a stay-at-home dad when I was little).  He always played Day Tripper to me so I thought that it was his song.  His name is John.  When you're young, the only logical conclusion is that your dad is John Lennon!  Doesn't look anything like him, though, but he has been mistaken for Sting before.

I think my answer was 'no more worried that I am here?'  It wasn't exactly a question that I was expecting.  I was much more worried about having to file my tax returns, etc.

The things that get me in the UK are the little things, really.  Shops closing at 5, cheddar cheese being white, refrigerated eggs in the grocery store, the fact that the sugar is shelved with the tea and coffee and not the baking supplies, and that baristas here seem to always be befuddled when I ask for a cup of black coffee.  I am sure that you have those issues with the US, though.  I'll never forget the look on DH's face when he ordered sausage at Bob Evans in Ohio and the waitress asked him if he wanted links or patties.  Bahahaha!  And no one can ever understand him when he orders water.  He always calls me lazy because I can go from the dry cleaners to the bank to the pharmacy to the fast food place to the Brew Thru to home all without leaving my car.  Ah, I miss home....  :P

Haha that's great! I remember a girl once seeing a photoshop I did of myself and John when I was in my teens and she asked me "Is that your dad?" I wanted to say yes but I am too honest!  :P

Oh yes, my wife was a little freaked out about the eggs not being refrigerated in Britain and one of the things I noticed when I was over here was all the eggs are white. Where have all the brown eggs gone?! haha

I will admit, the amount of time people spend in their cars over here does alarm me. My mother in law treats hers like it's an office and dining room. Drive thru banks! That was another eye opener! haha

So where are you in the UK? It all depends on where you are with regard to easy access to things. If you live in London the tube is extremely handy for a lot.

Drive thru banks!

Double-edged sword. Which lane to choose? I always got the one where the person ahead was doing a very complex transaction....I don't know, taking out a mortgage or investing in a foreign oil field....
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

The intercoms, the pneumatic tubes, they're all very taxing on my primitive British capabilities.  :P

the pneumatic tubes

Dude, I love the pneumatic tubes....you put something in a little canister thingy and they whooosh them over to you. I giggle and clap my hands when they do that!

And when you're a kid, they magically generate DumDum suckers for you in only the best flavors!

I don't use the drive-thru bank very often because it's usually easier to just run in (add banking complications to the pet peeves about the UK; my little Credit Union knows me by site so few limits on what I can do).  The pharmacy, however, pure genius!

Should have just said yes and claimed him as your father.  I bet she'd still be telling people that she met John Lennon's son!

Fear not, we have loads of colorful eggs in Ohio.  Our local grocery store stocks all it's produce from a nearby farm so the eggs are from a mixture of breeds.  Still not quite as good as our free range eggs from when we had chickens (you've never tasted anything so good until you have a monstrous double yolker from a Barred Rock Hen  :o ).

I'm out in Essex towards Southend-on-Sea, not too far from Rayleigh if you are familiar with the area.  I do like having the trains and buses around (if you want a bus service where I live, you have to call ahead and arrange it) but I do miss my car!  Perhaps what I miss is being able to have the freedom to decide when and where I am going without having to rely on the schedules of other people.

I would link you all to my soundcloud to have a listen but I think there's a rule against promoting yourself! :P

Would admin mind? I would love to hear your stuff! I am thinking now that you might be somebody cool and famous....

I really don't think she had any idea who John Lennon was. That was the sad part. I really wish I had said yes now as when she would have seen a picture of him again she would have said "Oh that's Dominic's dad" and yet another Beatle myth would do the rounds! :P haha

Oh yes, I have seen some of the free range farm eggs at farmers markets. I'm not a fan of eggs myself except when they're an ingredient in brownies or some cake dessert. I love Desserts!  :P

Oh well, I suppose I can PM you and anyone else if they'd really like to hear? They're all covers of the Beatles and their solo work and various other artists that I've fancied covering.

And sorry to disappoint you but I am not cool and certainly not famous. Now, would you like my autograph?  ;) haha

I would love to hear!

The Beatles....it's sort of hard to talk about them...

I know for me I was very much an adult before I began listening to them. I never got Hendrix or Dylan until I was older. It was sort of scratchy hippy music. I was much more into Van Halen and ZZ Top....a lot of crunch.

But then I would find myself listening to a Beatles song on the radio while driving somewhere and I wouldn't be turning the channel. And then once you start getting the records and exploring the vast width and depth of what they were doing...the melodies. These lyrics:

The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear

This video of Long And Winding Road, without the wall of sound:

Beatles - The Long And Winding Road

It's almost shambolic....so much going on in that room....McCartney's eyes looking around....the pan over to Yoko (who gets a bad rap in my opinion). Very poignant.

I totally agree with you. I sent you a PM with the link to my soundcloud. Anyone else who is curious as to what I sound like singing and playing, feel free to ask me!  :)

I went straight for the ELO...which was great, but the highlight is the lady's vocal on the Patsy Cline number...felt like I was back in a pool hall drinking beer at 1 in the afternoon!

Thank you! Yeah I only did that one ELO song as I haven't got all the equipment for a production like that! That's my wife singing the Patsy Cline number. She's the real star! :D
