Strange cat behaviour
« on: January 21, 2015, 11:20:17 AM »
Years ago I had a cat and was living in a rented house. Nothing remarkable about it, the house, nor the cat.

There was a spare bedroom down at the end of the hall where I stored a few boxes and items, and I kept the door closed.

This cat would sometimes look down the hall at the door and mewl like it was nervous. Occasionally it's ears would go back and it would hiss in the direction of the room down the hall.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Her hee hee.  Mine once looked down the hall and stood, on his back paws (like a mere cat), with his ears back and big eyes.  I was terrified and didn't sleep at all that night!

Yes, that's not just I've-heard-a-mouse behavior at all, is it.  Spooks!

Well I'll tell you....having fought off a mouse infestation....I'd almost rather have a ghost hanging around.

I should tell you about my last mouse experience. I hate the little guys. Because there is never one it seems.

I had been battling these things...little cute field mice, for about a week. I had trapped a couple. The thing is is you get to where you can tell when one is near...little scrabblings and motions out of the corner of your eye. I had got a few with a bowl and then sliding a piece of cardboard under and off to the field.

I spy one out of the corner of my eye traipsing across the moulding on top of the door. How did he get up there? My wife tells me to get rid of it. My daughter tells me not to hurt it.

So I creep over with the broom, with the intentions of batting him down and herding him into a nearby corner where my daughter can put the bowl over him (she likes the catch and release process).

I don't know if I hit him wrong or if he lept at me (I think he lept at me) but he landed on the back of my neck sort of inside the edge of my collared shirt. It was flailing about in there.

My wife said I looked like one of those Lord of the Dance dancers, Michael Flatery or something - sort of stiff hopping/jigging. But saying "Whoooo.....whooooo".

Ewwww ...   :P  I don't run screaming when I see one (or more) but not fond of being in touch with them, thank you very much.

DS and house-mate were living in Mouse-House last year.  Varmints were actually strolling around on their beds.  Cat did try but must be too elderly now.  We ended up having to hire pest control.  Not as bad as bed bugs though.

LOLOLOL @ sonofasailor about the mouse in your collar!   :D :D
I hate them, myself, mainly because my mom's house was overrun with them. I used to watch them run across the top curtain pole in my bedroom!  Nothing like trying to sleep when you know several mice are in your room. I reached towards the table once to get something and had a mouse staring right into my face.  This is why I always had cats. They'd find them before I did.  :)  I had a 3-legged kitten who was the best mouser ever.

About your cat's reaction to the door down the hall...  was probably either a ghost or the cat was picking up on negative energy. I had an extremely high electro magnetic field in my house in Maryland (it was over 100, and if you get higher than a 3, that's cause for concern), so my cats had a field day with "seeing" things. High EMF can cause you to hallucinate or even feel sick. I never felt sick from ours, but it sure did provide a lot of entertainment. :)
