expatX and lyonaria I'm glad you guys knew exactly what I'm talking about :)  Those were the good old days!

I can't find the cards anywhere anyway.  I explained to some of my coworkers and even though they were like oh no that's strange we don't do that, I was like well no candy for you lot then, they were a little disappointed haha

But got it - no cards.  It makes me sad that was the reaction though.  I am still having a tough time figuring out the English and what is right and wrong.  They talk about really inappropriate and/or rude things with people they barely know (I cant even count how many people have blatantly asked me how old I am - what!  Among other weird things), but giving a cartoon-y little card with a candy to coworkers whom I'm friendly with is inappropriate?  This country is odd!

Just different!

When we lived in the US I used to think it was rude that people I had just been introduced to would ask me which church I went to!!!  I think that's far ruder than asking my age.

But it's all just different (and interesting) - variety being the spice of life!!

I am kicking myself for not bringing my leftover Valentine's Day cards over with me!  I still have tons of Indiana Jones ones.  I sent the to all of DH's husband a few years ago and they thought they were great.  I have noticed that there are a lot of friend Valentine's cards out there in the shops...  And I would kill for some Sweetharts right about now!

When my friends and I were studying abroad in the UK back in 2010, we naively didn't realize that Valentine's Day was not celebrated as it is in the US so we made handmade cards for everyone in our block of dorms and taped them to their doors with tiny pieces of candy attached.  Most people liked them but one of the guys in our block (we weren't really friends with him) brought his girlfriend back to his room after their date only to find a card on his door.  Girly kicked up a storm and broke up with him on the spot!  We felt a bit bad but it was totally an over-reaction.  I mean, it was a card with a hand-drawn dinosaur on the front signed by 3 people and there were similar ones on every other door in the hall.  Yeah, he didn't talk to us after that.
