I am trying hard to be a vegetarian....

Back bacon is one of those things you get right. There's some substance there. Streaky can just cook away to nothing.

My dad is vegetarian and when we went back the freezer was filled with veggie mince, sausages, pies and bacon. It's easier to go Veggie in Britain than it is in Texas. I use veggie mince in the lasagne I make and the Veggie stuff is SO expensive over here. I also have to make do with Alfredo sauce as the Bechamel, which comes out tasting great. The Ricotta they put in Lasagne over here is just [smiley=puke.gif]

Yeah that's something I don't like about streaky. Considering America's seeming obsession with bacon it's a wonder people make do with just streaky and not back bacon. There's more meat on there.

Has no one mentioned pouring custard yet?!?   In the summer cold over fruit cocktail and sliced banana, any other time warmed up over Marks and Spencer Belgian chocolate pudding - and this is just two of the many wonderful possibilities! Mmmmmmmm, mmmmmmm, yum.....  [smiley=smitten.gif]

When I had to return to California last summer to apply for the fiance visa, I had 12 cans of Ambrosia custard in my suitcase!  It was crazy, but I had barely anything of my own things since I wanted as much suitcase space as possible for the return trip to the UK.  The only person who didn't rave about canned pouring custard was my daughter, the foodie, who makes everything from scratch...   [smiley=chef.gif]

.... Let me tell you, she did not get that from me!  ;D

Oh and I don't believe I ever had anything like a Graham cracker before coming to the States.

Still no graham crackers here, but digestive biscuits suffice.

I hate back bacon, and always buy streaky... for me, it's all about the lovely FAT!  Back bacon is so dry and like shoe leather to me.

I have to make Birds Custard when I make trifle over here. I do like it! I am laughing so hard at the 12 cans of Ambrosia in your suitcase. Did customs open it up and did you shrug your shoulders and say "Devon knows how they make it so creamy"?  ;D

Ah yes, digestive biscuits will do the job nicely. You don't have brown sauce on your bacon butty then?

Isn't Canadian bacon the closest to back bacon in N. America?

I worked next to a lady once who ate cottage cheese straight out of the container at her desk. My brow would be sweating looking at it.

There was a guy once on the bus. It was hot but no one wanted the windows open for some reason....the driver must have just gotten divorced or something....very angry and aggressive around the turns and pumping the breaks. Anyhow this guy across the aisle had an open jar of those little pickled onions and was munching on them...I'm not Catholic, but I was doing all the holy signs and saying Latin sounding things..many promises were made and solemn vows sworn...

The lady with the cottage cheese was not quite that bad...but she would scrape scrape scrape the sides of the plastic container with her plastic spoon. Why scrape so many times? Just dip in and get a spoonful. She would scrape a few times, pause, and then, I guess, not being happy with the results, scrape a few more times.

Oh yes!!  I hate it when people do that with yogurt pots too.  I want to scream:  Enough already!  It's finished -- you're done!!

I think I take after my grandfather -- I am very pernickety, especially where other people's eating is concerned   ;)

I feel a bit hypocritical now. Just the other day I eating a bowl of cereal and as I got into it I realised I was sort of marshalling  the cereal over to the side in order to achieve some sort of cereal/milk ratio, or density or something. I mean as you get say into the second half of the bowl of cereal, you seem to naturally have more milk than cereal, and if you just scooped it up it wouldn't quite be the same....a spoonful of milk with a few flakes. So I scooped around a lot to achieve the proper balance....or something.

But as yoghurt is homogeneous....this may not apply.

It is close but I find it a little too thick for my liking.

Cottage cheese is another no-no for me. I don't like pickled onions themselves but as a crisp flavour it is delicious.

Yes, my tastes are simple and weird. :P

Yeah that's something I don't like about streaky. Considering America's seeming obsession with bacon it's a wonder people make do with just streaky and not back bacon. There's more meat on there.

You don't like the ricotta?! That is my favourite part of lasagna! I love it so much I'd rather have manicotti. (it's a pasta shell stuffed with ricotta and shredded cheese mixture)

As to the bacon. It really is all about cooking the slices of bacon so the fat is crispy and just melts in your mouth. *drools* I've only had perfect bacon a few times in my life, but I can remember those times perfectly.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
