Maternity allowance ends what can I do?
« on: March 04, 2015, 05:17:01 PM »
Hi all!

Just throwing it out there looking for suggestions.

I am at home with my 3 month old son and facing the end of my maternity allowance with no job to go back to.

The unfortunate coincidence of finding out my store was closing (I worked part time in retail to help a friend's business when I moved here) and finding out I was pregnant happened at the same time. It was great in the sense that I had a stress-free pregnancy and took care of myself, but now that maternity allowance is ending (in June) I have to start from scratch with a baby to look after.

Ideally, I would need to work from home. I am only looking for something like £500-£600 a month at the least and a childminder can cost twice that making the work unnecessary.

I have had PLENTY of people suggest selling makeup, products, supplements, etc. I have NO interest in that.

In a best case scenario, I am looking for data entry or a role I could do remotely. Also, I can probably commit to 20-25 hours a week. I can do weekends and nights if necessary as my husband does shift work.

I am qualified in marketing, advertising,
PR, sales and all types of media. I worked for a publisher and ran a record label in previous positions, but as a SAHM I am no longer interested in climbing the corporate ladder.

Does anyone have suggestions? It's so tough to find part time work as most would say I am over-qualified, but I don't want to be a career mum. Am I alone?

Thanks!
Mrs R

Just a suggestion as I am in Real Estate but what about working part time in a lettings agency doing admin work or viewings?

The market is blowing up at the moment and we cannot seem to find enough qualified people
