Returned Driving Licence Application
« on: March 28, 2015, 02:18:18 PM »
I sent away an application for a provisional licence last week (I've been here almost 5 years now so thought it was about time to get my driving licence).  I came home today and had it returned with a letter stating that "Your passport does not contain the appropriate immigration stamps or visas we would expect to see from a person entering the United Kingdom".

Bit annoyed as I paid for special recorded delivery both ways and now I will have to do it again!  Do they just need my passport and Biometric resident card (I have ILR)?  Can I send just my biometric card or should I send both?

You should be able to send off only your BRP. I got mine a few years back with only my BRP.

Here's my experience: http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=78098.0

I'm not sure it's changed much except for the fact that you can't go to one of the DVLA offices to send it off.

Oh no! I was going to send mine off this week as well! Does anyone know if this is correct? From what I saw, a passport was all that was needed!

You definitely need to include your BRP. Otherwise they have no idea that you have the right to reside in the UK. Your passport doesn't provide that proof.

Hi Geeta
sorry for my ignorance but what is a BRP? My spousal visa is inside of my passport. I don't have anything else as I am on my 1st issuance.

In your case, you only send your passport.

You have to send both your passport and visa. If the visa was issued outside the UK, it will be a sticker in your passport. If it was issued inside the UK, it is a separate Biometrics Residence Card (BRP) in addition to your passport.

So, if your visa is in your passport, you only send your passport. If you have a BRP visa, you send that as well as your passport.

Yeah, that is exactly where I went wrong, Mrs Roberts.  I thought it was one or the other, have now returned my application with my passport and BRP so hopefully my provisional will turn up soon!
