Air con suggestions?

Anyone have one of the single-room portable air con units?  Our flat can get unbearably hot when the temperature rises, and DH and I are thinking about finally getting one.  We don't know what the good brands are though, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience/suggestions of what to buy.  TIA!

Is it only hot when it gets more humid?  Or do you have direct sunlight and no airflow and its hot all the time?  For the former you may want to consider a dehumidifier with a fan combination.  For the latter, if you can get a window box air conditioner we have found (at least in the US) works better than a portable unit.  Really make sure you measure correctly the size of the room you are cooling and purchase accordingly.

We were looking at a unit earlier in the year and Amazon was a good source for reviews.  We didn't buy in the end because we get good airflow through our flat and realized we just had a problem when its really humid and even then its not THAT bad.
