LOL... I read those articles!
I always take my extra food home from restaurants, but of course I don't call it a 'doggy bag'!
I just ask if they can put it in a takeaway container for me.  Never had a problem, or been made to feel any disapproval.   :)

Me too - I particularly enjoyed the "planet saving box of deliciousness" as an alternative to "doggy bag".  ;D

It's been ages since I've heard the term doggy bag used in the context of asking for leftovers at a restaurant.  I just ask for a container to take my leftovers home in.  I have gotten the impression that it isn't as accepted here, by a look or perhaps a comment - but nothing big. I just go with the, "I'm an American" shrug, that seems to work in most situations, and then I happily take my leftovers home!  ;)

The Italian place near us always asks if you want a box for your uneaten pizza/lasagne, etc.  I don't mind having cold pizza for breakfast  ;)

Nowadays it seems well nigh impossible to get a bag of any frozen veg (except peas) under 2 kg.  Maddening when your dollhouse size fridge has a freezer that will hold only one 2 kg. bag!  And I do miss one pound+ can of coffee -- I seem to be always running back for another titchy bag of the stuff.

hahaa same! I only called it a doggy bag on here just to avoid any confusion. I absolutely ABHOR the term doggy bag on a normal basis! hahaha

I'm not sure why exactly - it may just be a historical/cultural thing that is not easy to break out of.

I did come across a couple of news articles about why doggy bags aren't that common in the UK, maybe they can help shed some light:

BBC: Doggy bag: Why are the British too embarrassed to ask?

Telegraph: Why do the British have such a problem with doggy bags?

Thank you for these! I will read them on my lunch break :)

Cold Pizza For Breakfast - Christine Lavin

Some people eat grapefruit for breakfast
some people eat oatmeal
there are those who are sure
granola is a very good deal
but not me I don't go for that stuff
when it comes to nourishment I get more than enough
nuthin' satisfies my taste like sitting down to a great big plate

of cold pizza for breakfast
warm coke to wash it down
AAAH!
maybe a couple of pepperoni
make this meal well rounded
gimme cold pizza for breakfast
in a pinch cold spaghetti'll do
but there's nuthin' in the world that I like better
than to eat cold pizza with you
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC
