Starting work in a week!
« on: August 03, 2015, 11:23:33 AM »
I'm starting my new job in a week!  I was so worried after only one other interview and not as much as a call back from a few temp agencies that it was going to take me ages to find a job.  However, after two interviews (and three presentations split between the intervies), the University of Sheffield hired me.  They came clean and told me that I was the only candidate invited back to give a couple more presentations as they were interested in my American Residence Life experience.

It does mean that we will be relocating to the other side of the Pennines in a few weeks... a bit bittersweet as we have enjoyed living here in the NW, but I am more familiar with the East Midlands and so ready to go back to work.

Thank you everyone for your help!  I cannot tell you how many times I referred to this forum for advice or even just some inspiration when I was feeling a bit low :)

Congratulations! I hope everything goes well at the start and the school and department are supportive of you. It's so nice to have the pressure of applications and interviews behind you, isn't it?

Thank you!  And yes it is so nice to not have to complete anymore applications and go on anymore interviews.  I forgot how time intensive applying for jobs was.

Meant to say congrats!

I hope you enjoy your new job. There is nothing more stressful then job hunting in a new country. *smiles*

I hope you have an amazing first day!
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Oh the applications are crazy and everyone uses their own system. I was so tired of entering all of my resume info into the online form, plus sending the resume. And places were asking for cover letters that really had no need for one, I mean like entry level retail - sorry I'm not writing a cover letter to work at Barnes & Noble (during my crazily hunt for a summer position phase).

Thank you everyone!  First day was good... I have two weeks of induction, but most people are on holiday, so it is really low key right now.

I think the most stressful part of my day was the traffic jam in the Peak District... caused by sheep in the road :)
