Old newbie..??
« on: August 06, 2015, 11:00:19 PM »
Yeah, so I've been on this site for ages (although I couldn't remember my old password so I had to make a new account on here) back when my S.O and I were doing the long distance thing for years and I came on here to keep me going with hope that one day we'd live together in the same country.

Long story short, I live in the East of England now, have been for a little over 4 months and I am just terribly homesick. Terrribllllyyyy. I'm on antidepressants now and bleh, the transition ain't been as smooth as I hoped lol. So, I came back to this website in hopes of finding some friends and some people to relate to. I'm 23 and from New York (upstate, not NYC),... finding this move much harder than I originally thought, lol.

Hello! I'm a fellow New Yorker (upstate too) and I'm in the East of England as well. I've been here since 2000. First let me say I experienced the exact same thing. It is very difficult and can be lonely until you make friends & settle in. But give it time and it will happen.

Hi. Sorry to hear you're finding it hard to settle in. I'm sure our lovely British 'summer' doesn't help! My new husband is also from the US and we love in the East of England too (mid-Essex). What are you missing from home?

Hi Hiraeth!

The first 9 months were the worst for me. I missed everyone back home terribly. We didn't have a lot of money and it didn't help that I wasn't able to work either. Which didn't help the boredom. I didn't really start making friends until earlier this year, so it took awhile. But I've started to settle in and I've got a few good friends to spend time with.

We're in the East Midlands.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
