Hi from Kansas soon from UK!
« on: August 20, 2015, 08:24:42 PM »
Hello Everyone!  First, let me say how excited I am to find this!   I am a wife and a mother of 4 who is extremely overwhelmed by the extreme possibility of moving from Kansas to England!  My husband is in negotiations with his company on terms for a long term position in the London area.   Everything is going great but I can't help worry about my kids and school!  Two of my kids will probably stay back in the States as they will both be in College (university ;)

My confusion is on my younger 2 who will be 15 and 11.  Any advice on how the heck to figure out the different schools will be very welcomed!  I can't wait to look through all the posts and get to know people!

Think long term.  What type of visa will your husband have?  If it's a Tier 2 ICT, this is a temporary transfer that cannot last longer than 5 years.  If that's the case, you may want to negotiate private education at an American school as part of his transfer package so that your kids can move seamlessly between the two systems.  UK education is VERY different (not better, not worse, just very different).

Ideally I would like them in an international school so they will be on schedule when we return in 2-3 years but at this point his company won't consider paying since it is an English-English country.

I'm currently researching online international schools for them that we could financially swing.

The kids' schooling is my main concern!  We can manage everything else!  Y kids and I will stay through this school year in the states so kid #2 can graduate in May!
