Moving Books from UK to US
« on: October 19, 2015, 12:44:14 PM »
My aunt is going into a nursing home in the UK. She is giving me all her books. It will be about 15 boxes. What is the most cost effective way of shipping them to the US?

Thank you,
Larry

My guess, given the weight of books, is via sea freight with a company like Upakweship or the like. I can't remember the name of heir European partner off the top of my head, but they have one who does UK to US.

Hi,

Do weigh the books in those boxes and ensure that they're strong boxes as well.

Get the dimensions of each box and then go to these UK based websites which compare pricing in order to send items abroad.

https://www.parcel2go.com/
http://www.p4d.co.uk/
https://www.parcelmonkey.co.uk/
http://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/

I very often export and import using quotes given by one of these places and I compare with each other as well.

The other thing I was going to say is you could sell the books off here and buy the same one in the USA? unless these books have sentimental value then you'd save yourself quite a substantial amount in shipping those 15 boxes over which I'd say would costs anywhere from £40-80 or so each.

Cheers, DtM ! West London & Slough UK!

Thank you both for replying. Selling the books is not an option. They are my aunt's books, so the purpose of sending them is to keep them in the family.

Thanks,
Larry
