Think about how many flights your pet will take when shipping
« on: November 26, 2015, 08:20:04 PM »
Hope this won't ruffle anyone's dog feathers (Golden Retriever owner here  ;) ) I have one bit of advice to shipping dogs, especially large dogs like my 2 Goldens. ages 9 and 10. Please choose the shortest route possible. i.e. least amount of plane changes as you can possibly find. My youngest Golden I knew would be a problem, he hates loud noises etc., but even I was not prepared for the trauma that such a long ordeal would cause him. They went Norfolk,VA to DC by road transport, about a 4 and a half hour drive, then DC to Chicago, Chicago to Heathrow and finally Heathrow to Edinburgh. It was too much! He arrived at our home in Fife in a traumatized state, had obviously had diarrhea as his backside was stained and he had probably defecated in his crate, vomited on arrival at our new home and exhausted as it was obvious he had not slept.  I would never do this to him again. Ever.

Awwww, I'm so sorry!  I hope your pup settles in soon.

My pet transportation company arranged direct flights for my two kitties and so we just had the hour ride home in the car (by that point they were with me) so they weren't too traumatised.  As soon as they saw me, they had a good wash of each other in the car and then sniffed around the flat and took a good long nap.

Though they do get nervous if they see suitcases now!   ;D
