I don't get it
« on: December 27, 2015, 09:19:37 PM »
I just watched the new Star Wars on a free site (feeling a little guilty).....I'm a Sci-fi fan, and....it had fairly crap sound+video.....but I don't get it. It was OK......a decent film considering I like Sci-fi.....but certainly not amazing.

Really? That's a shame. I really loved it myself. Of course I saw it in 3-D IMAX so that may have helped with the experience of it!

Don't know how this slipped past.

I liked it.....and will probably watch again.

But I think they will always suffer a little from comparison to the original three.

But I liked the prequels too....

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

The prequels??????? You must be mad........

Now.....to qualify my original review. I was under the influence.......and I was watching a bad free copy off an online site. But......I will watch it again with a better version, but it was not a religious experience as was quoted on tv.

My fav movie of the last 10 years still is an evidently sleeper movie......Stardust.

Stardust.

I....but....Stardust?

I must say Di Niro as the cross dressing pirate....

Just for the record, my favourite Sci-Fi lately was the first Riddick movie, Pitch Black. Well maybe Interstellar.

But I recently re-watched The Thing (Kurt Russell version) and it was terrific.

Same here.  I went with my wife and 2 adult children (30's) over Christmas, in a nearly full theatre.

Have you read the book? It's even better than the movie! They left out so much. Neil Gaiman is a fantastic author.

One of my favourite things in the book is the actual event that the mother is bound to the witch with until the event occurs.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Under developed story and underdeveloped characters. Without the originals you wouldn't have a bloody clue what was happening. Overall, it was entertaining but hardly one of the greats it had to potential to be. I simply think they tried to adapt a new story out of something old in a new political environment and they simply rushed it. Oops!

I can hope that my semi-ok feelings about the movie were because of the poor quality/audio. I am a BIG fan of SciFi/Fantasy .....I had to sell all my DVD movies when we moved back here. Firefly series.....Twilight Zone......Buck Rogers.....Flash Gordon....Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death (really....I had this one). I don't expect great.....just entertaining (which it was). I would rather watch a bad movie that I am interested in.....than a good movie that has all the awards....but is depressing. Star Wars......Indiana Jones (not the second one..)....Star Trek (new ones are great).....Spiderwick Chronicles....Stardust....all entertaining.
