sponsor letter for spouse visa
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:30:30 AM »
Hello again

I am just in the process of writing my sponsor letter for my husband's visa application. I have a very good command of English and my letter will be written properly. I was also thinking of writing my husband's for him as well however would ECO get suspicious as Husband's English is not as good as mine. Should I write his side of letter briefly in line with his English command?

Your husband does not need to include a letter.  If he does choose to include a letter, it should state the application he is applying for, his desired travel date, and explain anything unusual about his application (criminal convictions, unusual bank transactions).

And yes, he should write his own letter.  Feel free to guide him and edit it, but this is his application.   :)

Dear Entry Clearance Officer,

Please find enclosed here an application and supporting documents for a spousal visa for ************ who I am sponsoring.

I first came across my partner on Facebook towards the end of 2013. My partner is also my first cousin but as such we did not keep in contact during the earlier parts of our lives due to family differences. However in 2013 without informing our families, we started contacting each other through Facebook and grew to like each other very much.

In 2014 we decided that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together as Husband and Wife and as such decided to get married however our parents still did not know and as such we had to keep our correspondence hidden. Towards this time we would keep in touch through whatsapp and voice calls as well as Facebook.

Towards the middle of 2014 both my partner and I decided to try and convince our parents for the marriage. I spoke to my mother and he spoke to his Father both of who were very supportive of the relationship.

Eventually my Father and his Mother also approved of the arrangement as we were both very serious about each other.

My official engagement date was then set for ************ and my Husband’s sister and her family and my Husband’s brother came and did the official ceremony. My husband was unable to come to the engagement due to not having Entry Clearance for the UK. I was unable to fly over to due to not being able to book leave from work.

I then managed to get leave and flew to ****** on *********and got married that evening. I then spent the following month before coming back home due to work commitments. My husband has not been able to come and see me since then due to Entry Clearance and I have been unable to see him due to not having any annual leave left. However we speak daily on whatsapp skype and call.

My Husband and I share similar family values and have a common interest in family, cars and travelling the world. His sense of humour and caring nature and deep sense of commitment has particularly won me over. We also share the same religion and have strong family background due to being first cousins also.

If this spousal application is successful, we look forward to making the United Kingdom our home and hope to start a family soon.

That's way too long, but doesn't cover what it needs to. You'll need to cut down your entire letter to one short relationship paragraph and then use the rest of the letter to describe how you meet the visa requirements.

The letter should say:

First paragraph:
- type of visa you are sponsoring
- how you are eligible to sponsor the visa (you are a UK citizen)

Second paragraph
- which financial category you are meeting. Your current employment, current salary and how long you have worked there

Third paragraph:
Where you will live in the UK and what accommodation documents you are including

Fourth paragraph:
- short history of when and how you met and why you are choosing to settle in the UK instead of the US (I.e. Condense your entire current letter into this one short paragraph)

Finally:
List of documents you are including

I thought that was separate letter and the contents page was a separate letter?

No, the contents letter is the optional letter written by your husband.

Your letter should include details of how you meet each visa requirement (financial, accommodation and relationship), plus a list of the documents YOU are providing towards the application to support what you've said in the letter - so your financial and accommodation documents and your passport copy (not a full list of every document being mailed).

The information about your relationship should be short and to the point... They just need to know where and when you met, what date you married, how you keep in contact while apart and why you are going to live in the UK.

Something like:

'We started communicating online on Facebook on X date and flew to ***** to meet each other in person on Y date. We visited each other Z times before getting engaged on A date. We flew to B country and married on C date, then after our honeymoon, I returned to work in the UK while he prepared his spousal visa application from the US. We have chosen to settle in the UK because of D reasons.'
