long before you joined.

All I can say is wow.
I've been a lurker on this forum since March 2013 when I became engaged to my now British husband. So yeah, you joined before I did, but I've been reading the forum for as long as you've had a log in. So please don't play the "I've been here longer than you card,' it's rather patronising.

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Again fair enough. I only had the information available to me to go on in terms of how long you have been around on the forum. I had no way of knowing that you were here for the particular posts I had in mind. If you read the particular posts I'm thinking of and still feel the way you do then good on you.

I like Sirius.  She knows her stuff and can really fill a lot of holes in my knowledge.  I also like that we often don't see eye to eye.  Keeps things interesting.  I have a feeling if I met her in person, we'd get along great.

I think a lot of us bring different perspectives to each immigration issue and it's good to "talk" about it.  It would be very boring if we all agreed all the time!

Let's all retract our claws now and focus on the real enemy - the government.   :P

I'm still dying to know Sirius' take on the family's visa being approved.   ;D

Alisonr and I are cool. :) PMs for the win!

And I'm curious what she has to say as well about that family. It really irks me that they got a get out of jail free card on this. How friggin unfair.  :P I hope he steps on legos.

Bolded for rudeness.

Fascinating.

Isn't it a curious, this human rationality, that allows one, when confronted with information showing a large-scale, systemic issue....to find outrage at a single individual's plea for compassion?

Do you ever self-analyse, and work through how these thoughts arise?
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

They had a spat......they're over it.

It would be lovely if you could let go of it too. :)

I have taken your advice into consideration.

Any thoughts on the rise in rates?

Any thoughts on the rise in rates?

I think they're probably designed to be an additional deterrent.

I'll say one thing.

A plea for compassion does not attack another human being, because by attacking someone else you are not showing them compassion.

Yes, settlement visas are family visas, although the price of ALL visas is increasing in April 2016... it's just that the majority of people here on the forum are applying for/have applied for settlement visas, so those prices are most relevant.

The term 'settlement visa' covers all of the following visas:
- fiance/proposed civil partner
- spousal/civil partner
- unmarried partner
- child dependant
- elderly dependant relative
- adult dependant relative

Let's face it, most of us here are either married to a British Citizen or about to be married.......myself I'm the Brit married to the American and I feel like my own country is punishing me for doing so! I am actually ashamed of how my country is treating those genuine decent human beings who want to come here and live! WHY? They need to look around and see that the majority of benefit fraud is from home-grown citizens not those who came here by choice. It sickens me.
PS Maybe I should have stayed married to the Scotsman who used to beat up on my when he got drunk........sheesh.

No, you're OK, the financial requirement is still 18,600gbp for the spouse visa. The fees will be going up in April though so it'll be more expensive to apply.

The 35,000 is for tier 2 visa holders.

How's your trip going eddy, are you still in the UK?
