Checking Suits On a Flight
« on: January 25, 2016, 04:15:23 AM »
Hi all,

Please don't laugh but I will be traveling the week of Feb 22nd and don't know how to bring my work clothes (suits, etc).  Previous travel I always brought them in a garment bag but that was literally one suit at a time.  When reading online forums everyone says not to check anything expensive.  Ok - expensive is subjective but my suits are about $600 each and I got a few.   Can anyone provide recommend how I should move them to the UK?  Need them for work.

Thanks!

You could roll tightly one/a couple into your carry on. You could then have it pressed and at least show up to work.  Check the rest....while they may get lost (probably long odds) I doubt anyone would steal them.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

I check stuff, including very expensive shoes!  Not had an issue.  I have lots of "lost bags" in the past but I've never had one go missing for too long.  The longest was a trip when it took 4 days for my bag to catch up with me.  My husband hates carrying a bag, so he even checks his iPad into his luggage!

That being said, I guess there is always a risk of a bag truly being lost.

Haven't had a bag go missing in 20 years of round the world travel. However, sometimes bags get delayed so I would bring one on the plane.

If you're worried about it, make sure you've got travel insurance that will cover lost or delayed bags.

If you wanted to go a step further, take pics of what you're packing so you can submit them with any claim if they really do get lost.

It's not likely a bag will be lost, but it makes me feel a bit more prepared. :)
