Help, filing US taxes, worked in both countries in 2015
« on: March 07, 2016, 04:04:31 PM »
Hi,

I'm desperately hoping someone can help me with my taxes. I am trying to use Turbotax or Taxact and I have a slightly difficult situation and I really cannot afford to pay someone to do my taxes.

So heres my situation.
Married to UK citizen since 2013
In 2015, I lived and worked two jobs in the UK.
In September 2015, separated from UK citizen and moved back to the US
In Nov 2015 started job in US.
UK citizen and I remain separated, he is still living in the UK and working there. We are still legally married but possibly divorcing soon.

First of all, what is best to file with? I started using Turbotax but got halted because people said to choose married but filing separately, but for Turbotax they ask for the SSN of the other person.

Is tax act better for people who lived/worked abroad?
What else do I need to know for my situation? I'm completely lost.
I would appreciate any advice!
